stok-ish offroading
aybody been offroading in stock rangers, i wanna see what they were capable of. especially any 2wd'ers, and those without lift kits, even if they are bl's

Stock 2wd offroading? lmao
Gravel roads if they aren't too steep, or maybe if you drive real fast you can drive through some shallow mud? |

i have a stock 4.0 v6 4x4(for the most part, replaced the air filter with a K&N) and did some offroading last turkey hunting season, steep rocky crappy back woods roads are not really a problem in 4x4 (high and low) in low gears with the O/D turned off as long as you know how to drive them.
hit a couple of mud pits along the way, one as deep as the bumper, didnt have enough clearance and T-holed a submerged rock, cracked the tranny radiator didnt realize it leaked coolant into the tranny and burned out the tranny. $2400 later got a new tranny installed a tranny coolant pump and swaped in a heavy duty torque converter. gets through mud pits just fine i just dont like to do it without scouting for hidden dangers that cost me a ton of money. a stock ranger will do more than most think, you just got to know the limitations and how to drive it. but remember its a stock ranger not a jacked up 350 with a diesel in it. |

stock 2wd rangers are VERY capable when it comes to offroading!!! capable of getting stuck..

and i've actually seen a stock 2wd colorado hang with some lifted jeeps, even if the trails werent too special, so they can do minor trails

Dirt trails without steep climbs are about all your gonna do. Mud holes with hard bottoms are doable but if its sticky your not gonna make it far without tires and a locker.

and tim, you nevertook your edge when it was more stock on some of the trails you run now with that nice prerunner piece you have now?

Had a guy in the Army back in 05 with an 03 Edge 2wd running down some muddy trails hard and fast. Hit a mud hole and stopped so fast that the airbags went off.

I think for the most part. Stock 2wd rangers should stay on asphalt :smile:

Does the atf run through the radiator like the older ones? Why do they have a trans cooler as well? Man that would suck big time but 2400 for a tranny is crazy! Where did you get it from? I never though about that happening but realize it can now! |

my truck is completely stock and i take down to my friends uncles property and to get from the front to the little house its about a mile and a half long trail. when it rains its completely mud and im able to get through all of it. theres on part right at the beggining when its a foot of mud water that i just drive right through. but be careful going through ruts because stock 2wd rangers dont have much ground clearence at all. i learned that and got high centered. but i would say that the most amazing thing that my truck has done so far is pull a trailer with a 4 wheeler on it through that mud trail.

hitting a mudhole fast is like sleeping with a pretty girl with vd...sure, you wanna hit it hard, but you should be weary of the consequences!

yup 2wd rangers fail on anything off-road, unless its competely dry, or is hard bottomed.

hard bottomed and mud just dont go together...
