strange noise only on cold start up **VID ADDED**

every morning when i come out to my truck and start it (keep in mind this has only been happening since the temp became colder here. so only about the last week.)

but when i start the truck, it makes a very strange sound. almost like a screech. only lasts for about a half second. but its very strange. and i have no idea what it is. and its not a sound like the belt slipping.

and if i let the truck warm up. and then start it again it doesnt do it. only after the motor completely cools down.

i dont think thats the type of noise the timing chains would make.. lol

a pulley would be no big deal though. im hoping thats it.

Mine did the same thing. It was the starter staying engaged too long.

Mine does that too, I don't think it's the starter, because I hear the sound the second the engine starts turning and I've already let off the starter. I figured it was just the belt making a noise. It only does it after I haven't driven the truck for a couple days.. and more-so if it's damp out. Not sure if we're talking about the same short screech noise, but I don't worry about it too much.

yea but even if your letting off the key in time the starter gear is still stuck forward on the flywheel. mine makes the same sound and I don't think it's the starter either however I could be very wrong.

Ive only seen this happen when it was at, or below 0deg outside.
A '05 150, My '05 ranger, and my buddys '01 ranger all made the same screech noise on that day. and only once in the morning... strange.

Starter for sure. Pull the plug for the fuel cutoff switch so the engine doesn't start. Then try cranking the engine and when you let go of the key it should make the same noise. Alon's truck made this noise every time he started it. We pulled the starter and there was a bunch of sand in there.

It shouldn't. If anything it will get louder but I'm not sure. That noise would drive me crazy though. I'd change it even if I was selling/trading in.
