oh, found out from a worker of a ford place...if u're headlights/foglights ever go out...they wheel ure car into the garage....and do the "Wiggle test" literally they wigle wiresto u're headlights until they come on properly and then charge u out the ***, claiming that they had to do a lot of work

It's not used on the Ranger, but can be turned on spuriously for a number of reasons. Not sure why yours is coming on though.

That is for the Explorer air suspension system and it contolled by switching pin 9 to ground in the 10-pin connector of the cluster. On Rangers, that pin position should be empty. Since you should have no wire there, it may be going to ground through the trace somehow.

According to the 99 Explorer schematic, the ground is provided by the Air Suspension Control Module. The other side of the light is hot in START and RUN, so any unintentional ground will light it.

Or you could investigate the cause by looking for reasons why the trace is grounding, if that is what it's doing. It is not often easy to follow the paths of the multiple layers on the back of the cluster, though.
