Swapping Motors

Hey ! I'm the lucky dude(shadetree) that overheated (really overheated) my Ranger 3.0L (flex fuel) engine. The motor is a 2000 model while body is a 1999. Rather than fix all the problems, I'm thinking of just replacing the engine again(2nd time). What I need to know is what year motors will interchange with mine. I'd be interested in 1997 - 2002 models. Do any of you ranger scholars have any idea on what I could interchange? I checked the internet but had no luck. Also I haven't searched the forum for a possible chart or info but will do as soon as I can. If what I need is on the Ranger forum, don't bother to reply unless you want to.
Thanks in advance.

97-03 3.0 (Rangers, Tauruses, Aerostars)
97-00 4.0 OHV (Rangers, Expos, Aerostars)
98-01 5.0 EFI (Expos, Mountys)
01-03 4.0 SOHC (Rangers, Expos)
98+ 4.0 SOHC Expos

The easiest thing to do is swap another 98-00 3.0 in. But if you are looking to upgrade the next easiest would be a 4.0 OHV (which also came on 99-00 model years), 5.0 EFIs would probably be the next easiest as far as compatibility, then the 4.0 SOHC which came in 90s-00s Expos and 01-03 Ranger (and later but they are different). For the 4.0s you should also look into swapping rear ends to the Ford 8.8 since your 3.0 has the Ford 7.5.

But with anything but another 3.0 you are gonna need the engine, the ecu, the wiring harness, and the tranny.

Only if you come and help! Considering the trouble I had swapping 2 identical motors, I don't need any more problems. I assume you were kidding. If not, pardon me.

I would love to have a 5.0l in mine. Hopefully by next fall I will be doing one in my truck, all depends on how my funds are.

Put a 3.0 2wd in a 4.0 4x4?

Got a 2wd 2000 ford ranger with a 3.0 in it, just hit a patch of ice this morning and smacked a tree. Motor and trans are still good. I found a 2003 4x4 with a 4.0 in it that’s no good. Could I drop my motor in it without swapping the tranny or no? Feel like you already answered this but just figured I’d ask
