tailgate handle broke

My handle on the tailgate broke off, stupid plastic handles. Anyways, is it just a handle that I replace or is it a whole assembly, like is the handle part of the latches and stuff? or can I pick one up for cheap at autozone?

i did the same thing. the handle has like two hooks that come off it, one (or both) of those hooks broke in two. so just the handle, but has the hooks attatched to them. i got a metal one at the local JY for 15 bucks. id say go that route. i doubt autozne will have one in.

once you get it, you just undo these little snap things that hold the rods in place, and pretty much just swap it out. its easy. the only adjustments you might have to make is how much play the rods have.

I just broke mine also. You'd think Ford would have put metal on something like this. Oh well.

Should be able to search the site and find a how-to thread.

It's an easy fix.

Its super easy to replace. Take off the 8 Torx 30 screws to remove the access panel, pop out the clips that hold the lock rods in place, remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the assembly in and then pull the whole thing out and seperate it. Rinse and repeat

Ya mine broke to. they are easy to fix unless you have a spray in bedliner. I had to cut it with a razor blade it was almost a half inch in some places. And I bent the access panel getting it out.

Mine just broke as well on my 2006...I had an 87 mustang so I'm used to parts coming off in my hand. Unfortunately they don't have a steel clone on Ebay for the large handled late model rangers. I got another plastic one and then just recently had to go back in and tighten up the rods to it. It's a little plastic clip you pry open, move the rod until there's no play, seat it and re-clip it.

The early Ranger ones are metal, the later handles are plastic. They're good quality.

i broke mine last year. If you have a bed liner take the bedliner off of the tailgate. Take the bolts out of the thin metal piece on the inside of the tailgate..once that pops off you'll see the entire handle device...i just replace mine with a stock on and so far its been good this past year.
