tailgate weight limit

Has anyone ever broken their tailgate from putting too much weight on it? I'm wondering how much it can support. Any ideas?

It should be able to hold a couple hundred pounds. you can load a quad on it no problem. usually the biggest problem people have is that the cables rust and rot and break when you put a load on it and that causes it to land on the bumper.

I've had at least 500 lbs on my tailgate several times without issue.

totally depends on cable condition. Ive ran over it with a garden tractor that weighs 1300 with me on it of course alot of ramp weight is on the ground or in the bed not all at once.

The first time I sat on my tailgate, my rotten and rusted cables snapped.

My tailgate landed on my bumper, and I landed on the ground.

Rust generally reduces strength by 10 fold

You should be fine as long as your cables are in good condition as mentioned above. The most I've had on mine is 700lbs but some of the weight was on the ramps as well.

Somewhere in that stupid owners manual I've read it was rated for 500 lbs... New , from the factory... Me and a 350 were on it and it didn't collapse so long as cables are good you should be fine with 3-400 lbs...
