Maybe some extra info like engine size and transmission would help someone give you some ideas.

I have a 99 2wd for sale, perfect condition....interested?
https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ead.php?t=6515

How many miles? super cab/single. 3.0, 4.0?

I havent seen any major problems with the 99, but just look for just the basics.

look down the side of the whole vehicle for clouded paint, or dented body for an acident, even if he says it wasnt in one.

Always listen to the engine run for a few minutes, dont just listen for a second and turn it off. turn the truck on, look around the inside then go to the engine.

look underneith the vehicle for major damage or rust.

check air/heat.

clean engine- ask about matience (oil change ontime)

i always ask the reason for selling.

just basically look careful. You should be able to tell if it was abused or not. and take your time looking. there are so many things that could be wrong with a car that you can pass over buy a guick look.

Evan has pretty much got it coverd the only thing I might add would be to the basics as to how the tranny shifts. Test drive it. If itz a manual tranny tach it out to make sure the synchros are all in good condition. I know my old ranger and my dads old mazda both had synchros that got funny shifting to 3rd at high rpms. Also check all power/electronic funtions. Meaning all power window lock buttons and such.
