third lights

I'm looking at the sylvania website and I cant figure out which lamp is the right ones to order for replacing the lights in the third brake lights. Heres the ones that they have listed:

Stop light
3157LL

High mount stop light
912

Back up light
3156LL

Anyone know which two of those I need to replace and which is the middle and which is the side ones? Thanks all. Btw I have some pics of the smoothed out black dash installed i'm gonna post soon.

Since you are going to change it why not go LED? Longer life and Brighter light! Cheap enough mod and very easy to do. Not to mention, it looks killer!

3156 = Normal reverse lights. 3157 = strop/tail/turn lights. 912= third brake light.

I plan on going led. I just needed to know which ones to match them up with. I just got the inverted cone leds for the gauge cluster and they look awesome.

So 912 for all three?

According to your 02 Ranger owner's manual, the center CHMSL bulb is a 922. The 2 cargo light bulbs on either side are 906's.

There is a large family of bulbs including the 906, 912 and 922 that all use the same wedge mount base but differ in specs like globe dimensions and wattage. Companies that sell replacement LED assemblies often lump these bulbs together and sell a single replacement.

The differences in the larger globed, wedge mount bulbs like the 906, 912, or 922 bulbs are mostly wattage, I've seen a lot of bulb housings and lenses melted by someone using a higher wattage bulb. Be sure to match the bulb with what it calls for. I also usually replace both even if only one is out, the other isn't usually to far behind.

The link below will give you specific wattages and other info for each type of bulb. (www.bulbs.com)

http://www.bulbs.com/products/produc...ucts&class=743

I don't have a book in front of me here, but I believe that the third brake light bulbs should be a pair of 912 bulbs, and the cargo lamp bulbs are usually 906's if so equipped. These look identical, so be careful not to confuse the two if your changing both. Most interior lights also use the 906 version. The 912 is a 12.8 watt bulb. The 906 is only 9.3 watts, so its also much cooler when lit. The 922 is a 12.5 watt bulb, but is slightly smaller than the 912. Which would make it a safer choice in tight fixtures. Ford lists this for many newer models for the 3rd brake light as well, (2005 and up I believe). The 922 would most likely would work in the older applications as well.

As stated above, the 2002 Ranger O/M specifies a single 922 for the CHMSL and two 906's for the cargo lights if it has them.

The 912 will fit the 194 base tho.

I'm assuming your talking about the clear/red/clear 3rd brake light.

Those will fit but they are not what was supplied as original equipment in 2002.

after some more looking i realized they all have the same bases. It's just a matter of the size of the LED. 194/168 is the same as 922 and a whole ton others except for the size of the head.
