Thoughts

Well, I plan on buying a new Ranger in about a year to 18 months. I know, I know. That is a long time away, but I want to keep up on prices and learn as much as I can about the trims I want. So when I shell out the cash I know what I'm getting into.
Well I'm losing my current Ranger due to my divorce :( She is getting my truck and i keep my motorcycle. We sold her car after I got my bike so we could buy rings. So now I want to save up money and buy a new truck. But now I want to get everything that I want.
I would like to get a Reg. Cab short bed 4x4 (if I can find one). If I have to settle I want a "4 door" 4x4. I prefer something Newer then an 05. But now my big question, I head all the time that Ford has the crappest auto trannys. In my 00, I have a Manual and with 160k miles, not a single problem. Now if I pick up an auto (like I really want), am I going to have tons of problems after 100k? Be sides that, what else should I look out for?

I wouldn't be worried about the trans if it's been well maintained. No issues with mine so far but I don't have all that many miles on it yet.

I wouldn't get a regular cab again especially if I had 12-18 months to find one. But thats me. And like Adam said if its maintained there shouldn't be be a problem.

unless you have medical reasons not too, buy a 5 speed. they are so much better and more fun to drive. Better gas mileage with them and much more reliable too imo. you will feel better about yourself in the end. i have had 5 rangers and all five were standards and were awesome. small trucks should be standard. want an auto, get an f150
