Timing chain guide broke
Timing chain guide broke
Hi everybody.
I have a 2010 Ranger, 4.0 sohc 4x2 with only 100k on it.Was driving down the road the other day and all of a sudden got a strange rattling noise coming from the front. So i continued my drive home which was approximatly 45 minutes and upon inspection i found out the front left timing chain guide busted and actually put a hole in my valve cover. So just wondering can i just replace the guide? I assume it never jumped timing.I'm not a mechanic but pretty handy.Have it all taken apart....hoping i can put it all back togeather.Any input would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Dealt with the same issue, I gave up and pulled the motor to redo the timing issue but you can get away with redoing it in the vehicle, first start with pulling the hydraulic timing chain tensioner out and see if it is still doing its job, there should be no obstruction otherwise the timing chain won’t get tension

Just had the same thing happen to my B4000. Did you attempt to replace the guide without taking the engine out?
