tire pressure monitoring system..... reckon my truck has it heh. found out after i put my aftermarket wheels on. had a small feeling it had it. ok heres the question. how the hell do i get them off the stock rims and onto my aftermarket rims?

i busted a bead on one tire and its held on with a band. so is the band reuseable? is it a PITA to get off? talk to me....

i would like to swap them over to my rims myself then have the aftermarket rims and tires rebalanced even though they need it now with out the stupid sensor.

i know the easy way is to ignore the idiot light, but c'mon im paying for this damn thing i don't want a dumb light blinking at me.

also any info on he things would be cool too. how the system works in more detail than what i know which they monitor your tire pressure. what about when i air down my tires? will they get crushed? lol sorry so many questions.

so in a nutshell FILL ME IN!

my mom's '04 GMC Yukon XL has em too...
my dad had new rims put on wen we first bought it and Carroll's Tire did it. they took out the sensors and put em in the new rims.
idk how they did it but i kno its possible.

 

you just got to be careful taking the bead off the rim because if you break em its not cheap, when you air down you will get that stupid little light back. reusable bands don't know, some vehicles i know you can take em off and switch them over.

 

with ford wheels your gonna need a new ring for sure, and if the rim isnt the exact same for the ring then it wont work, i work with these stupid tpms all the time. There is no other way of doing it on a ford without the ring.

 

yeah you will need a new band. which shouldnt be too hard to come across if you look around. im pretty sure on fords it also sticks on with double sided tape, but that isnt a big deal

 

You could always relocate all the sensors to your spare tire... you'd have to rerun the wiring for the sensors but you wouldn't have to worry about it until you got rid of the spare.

 

imagine a blue sensor that held onto the wheel using a huge hose clamp. that's pretty much what Ford does.

 

The band are NOT reuseable BUT here is a site that sells the ford style bands and your sensor just clips to it... enjoy

Ask 08xlt what he did. He has an 08 and put steelies on, so he had to do something with TPMS sensor

SWEET MAN!!! just what i needed. ill order them up and put them sensors in myself. then get my 31's rebalanced.


haha ive been in the 94 ranger era as far as safety crap and lift kits go heh. this 08 is nice and its a new learnin curve.

Trying not to hack this thread, but it defn relates...


I know when i was pricing out/specing a 09 ranger, the TPMS was optional. Is the same true for an '08? Or is it standard acrosst the board.

 

We had to order a new band at work for an escape and it was only like 30 bucks from ford so 120 bucks isnt that bad, but i like the idea with the spare, thats a good one.

 

to my understanding 2007 and on are required to have the tpms.

thats alot of money for a band....

 

It was standard on my 08, and on all the 08's I looked at for that matter.

 

TPMS is government mandated to be on all vehicles 2007 and newer. Some manufactures however came out with it alot earlier than that.

 

heres a picture of mine. took them out today, going to see if i can get 4 adjustable bands for them and reinstall them myself.

I would be pulling the cluster apart and getting rid of that light. I swap out wheels and tires too much to be worrying about all of that nonsense.

a large hose clamp would make it alot easyer to swap them. stock oem bands are crimped on. also in states that do the yearley inspections might look for the light on the dash to make sure its working. im guessing though, i just have gay smog testin here.

all that holds the sensor from turning on the rim a stickey tape and the band is to keep the sensor from flying off the rim at speed.

this is all new to me and im makin the thread for 07+ ranger owners that are un aware of the damn thing, the ways of moving them over to aftermarket wheels.

Yes like said above the bands that hold the sensors on from the factory are not reusable.
Ford does sell bands that are reusable though.

I just went thru this a few weeks ago.

 

hmm reuseable bands from ford.... sounds like alot of ky wold be needed. LOL
