Question about towing
I just recently purchased a 2021 ford ranger XLT sport with a tow package. I am making a large move from arkansas to florida in the coming months. I do not see the 2021 Ford ranger on the list of vehicles on the uhaul website. Anyone have any expirence towing the 6'x12' box trailer on the 2.3L turbo moter for long distances? Any thoughts / opinions on this would be appricaited.
thanks !

Welcome to the forum
You can see or download the Ford 2021 towing guide here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/content/d...owingGuide.pdf
Page 35 has the Ranger info for towing, you can show that to U-haul but they will probably have it already, just not on website yet
Everything is based on weight not really size of trailer, but the front area of a Box trailer can matter, i.e. the wind load when pulling it
Also pay attention to GCWR(gross combined weight rating) for your Ranger model
Your Ranger weights between 3,900 and 4,500 pounds depending on model, you can look that up, its called Curb Weight
So if your Ranger weighs say 4,200lbs then you subtract that from GCWR(say thats 8,900lbs) so 4,700lbs is left for your "load", and that load is people, cargo in cab and bed, and the total weight of the trailer with its cargo
The gross combined weight rating of the vehicle, i.e. if you were to pull the fully loaded Ranger and trailer onto a truck scale, that would be your GCW, and you can't Legally exceed Fords GCWR for that model on a public road
So if you load up a trailer with maximum towing weight then there would be very little left for any load in the Ranger
Usually maximum towing weight only allows for a driver and passenger and a full tank of gas, lol, and maybe a change of clothes
These are "legal" limits, not what your Ranger CAN tow, its what it MAY tow/haul
There are states that will pull over vehicles with "full loads" and weight each axle at the side of the road, simple portable scales, and if you exceed GCWR you will have to leave trailer there and come back with empty vehicle or larger vehicle that has higher GCWR, and pay the fine(the money grab they were looking for, lol), like a speed trap
I don't think a 2021 Ranger would have any issue towing a loaded 6'x12' box trailer, assuming household goods not dirt, gravel or concrete, lol

Yes, you should be fine
You may want to get a couple of extra Parking light fuses and brake light fuses and turn signal fuses, and look up where they go in the fuse box
U-haul trailers are usually fine, but..................they are "rentals", lol, so not always treated well
It's a real pain to lose lights at night on the road trip, and not a spare fuse in sight
You can download your 2021 owners manual from Ford, here: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...d&model=Ranger
Much easier to search in a PDF than a book
With Trailer package option there may be separate fuses for trailer lights, which is good, but still need to replace the fuse to keep driving at night, lol
