So I’m in the process of pulling the 3.0 out of the Ranger and cannot get to the bolts that connect the torque converter to the flywheel through the window on the transmission or through the starter hole. I’ve never pulled an engine out of a Ranger or any other vehicle before and am seeking help. I think maybe I need to take the oil pan off to allow more room to get to these bolts but am not sure if that’s necessary maybe it is? Do I need to get these bolts off before pulling the engine or is this something I can do after pulling the engine out? Is that a stupid question? (Probably) I can’t find anything online or on YouTube about this so I figured I’d seek help on the forum. Thank you to anyone who can help give some much needed advice.
There should be 4 nuts holding the torque converter the studs are on the converter which connects to flywheel
To remove I used a breaker bar to hold the crankshaft pulley in front of the engine while I loosened the torque converter bolts
when reinstalling make sure to tighten back up in a cross pattern and add some loctite for good measures
Engine is out! Now to ask more questions lol. I’m looking to replace this engine with a remanufactured engine off of JEGS. How do I find out which engine will be the correct one, are any of these numbers going to help me with picking the correct one. Also is there anything I need to do to have the engine “timed” correctly? Or is it a simple plug and play?😅 as you can tell this is all a new ballpark to me! If you find the same engine the 3.0, yes it can just be plug and play, I had swapped out my 4.0 for another in December of 2023 everything was plug and play !
