TOTM Rules 2.0

Ranger-Forums.com Truck of the Month Rules

Nominations:
-Up to 7 trucks per month may be nominated on a first-nominated, first-entered basis.
-A member may not nominate him/her self.
-The truck nominated must be owned by the member (not a previously owned vehicle) and must be either a Ford Ranger or Mazda B-Series truck. That member must also be an active member and have at least an average of 2 posts per day in order to be nominated.
-When placing a nomination, the nominating member must state the Ranger-Forums.com screen name of the individual being nominated, as well as a picture of that individual’s truck.
-The first 7 trucks with name and picture posted in that month’s nominations thread will be entered in the poll for Truck of the Month.
-Nominations will begin on the 15th of every month, and will close once 7 trucks have been nominated, or 5 days pass, whichever is sooner.
-Contributor status is not a requisite for nomination, and moderators are also not excluded from nomination.

If You are Nominated for Truck of the Month:
-Please submit your favorite and most recent picture of your truck along with factory specs and any mods you have done to it to the person in charge of Truck of the Month as soon as possible. Personal information about the owner of the truck may also be included if desired.

Voting:
-A poll will be set up with each truck’s mods and picture, and a brief profile of the member who owns the truck (profile optional).
-Each member will have one vote to vote for which truck they believe should be truck of the month.
-Voting will begin on the 20th of the month and conclude exactly 1 week later, on the 27th.
-Votes will be tallied on the 27th and 28th, and the winner will be announced on the last day of the month.
-In the event of a tie, a 1-day tiebreaker poll between the tied trucks will be taken where each member will have one vote.

General Rules:
-If a truck wins Truck of the Month, he or she is not eligible to be nominated again for at least 1 year. After the one year time period, he or she may be nominated again through the normal nomination process.
-If a truck is nominated one month and does not win, he or she is eligible the next month to be nominated again through the normal nomination process.
-The winning truck must post to accept his or her victory within one week of the announcement, otherwise he/she forfeits their Truck of the Month status to the runner-up.

Benefits for Winning Truck of the Month:
-Your truck will be displayed on the Welcome screen of Ranger-Forums.com for the entirety of the month for which you are Truck of the Month.
-Bragging Rights = D
-Other possible benefits may later include: a special page on Ranger-Forums.com showcasing all trucks of the month, a special sticker signifying your time as Truck of the Month, a special avatar border, or other things as deemed appropriate by the moderators of Ranger-Forums.com.

Changes made from the first draft:
-# of nominees changed from 5 to 7
-Moderators allowed to be nominated (they were before too, but I added a clause about this)
-Added the acceptance clause. This is to prevent a member who does not frequent Ranger-Forums.com often enough from winning.
-Extended ineligibility time following winning Truck of the Month to 1 year.
-Mazda B-Series may also be nominated (you're welcome TippnOver and EDGE_Wannabe :smirk:)

Everything sounds good, but 2 post per day? that seems a bit much. Some people who put hard work in the truck that can't put in that kind of post count because of work and what not shouldn't be excluded from being in it. I know my truck is no where near TOTM quality but work holds me back from being able to post that much. I think atleast move that down to 1 a day. Another thing to factor in is that given I have few post i've been visiting this forum since the day it started. Just my $.02. Good rules otherwise thought.

Ranger1 08-02-2005 06:39 AM

So where do we nomite people ? Here

winks 08-02-2005 07:19 AM

I agree with Mike, the 2 posts per day could be a bit rough for some good nominees, other than that, looks good to me :fing02:

Mnemonic 08-02-2005 07:34 AM

I agree with the rule, because I think you should be active on the board to win TOTM. But my only problem with it is, that once you're average is low, it's REALLY hard to get it back up over 2 per day. And we don't want to encourage postwhoring

rngprerunner 08-02-2005 07:48 AM

Then maybe change it to an average of 1 post per day. It doesnt take post whoring to achieve, just be an active member. If your only here to be TOTM then whats the point in being here?

bigolbubba 08-02-2005 08:04 AM

hell i know I dont have 1 per day average, but im still active. why does it have to be any specific average? why cant they just be an active member?

BlkTremor02 08-02-2005 08:15 AM

I would have to agree with everyone else with the 2 post per day, that is considered pretty high for most of the people on here..Take me for instance, I am not even posting over 1 post for a day, but I am active as heck one this site though! Might want to reconsider that..

01xltranger4x4 08-02-2005 09:15 AM

Sounds good, im with everyone on the post thing.............So is this going to start this month....(AUG, 15) then?

Gearhead61 08-02-2005 09:26 AM

Ok sounds like people don't like the post avg. How would y'all suggest we define "active members" then?

Hopefully we'll be able to get all this sorted out and get it running for this month. If not, well that just gives us another month to get it going! haha

ScottG 08-02-2005 09:49 AM

well, how about at least 10 posts and been around for 2 months or something

got 14 more days before we start

I say we follow the site rules for active members, here is a quote from the site owner as to what he considers active members:

If you never post once, and are inactive for over a month, your account will be deleted.

If you had an account once, and can no longer log in, odds are your account was deleted.

We don't want a membership full of 0 post members who never log on.

Other sites can boast very large memberships, because a majority have never posted, and never log in.

We want to have a clean memberlist, full of active members.

P.S. - If you have at least 1 post, your account will never be deleted.

Following this rule will alow the site to be uniform within itself.

Mnemonic 08-02-2005 10:36 AM

A link to the Site rules can be found in my signature. The above is more or less a policy/reminder, because we don't want people to join just to view member's Profiles and send PM's. It's not really too much to ask, that they at least post once for that priviledge.

I propose the following:
Have at least 25 posts (or whatever amount, just enough to show they have some online presence)
Have been active member for the past 60 or 90 days.

Really people probably won't nominate those who are barely online or just lurk anyways. So this is somewhat moot anyway. I just don't want to have to say "we would have let your nomination stand, but technically you aren't active enough" to someone has joined 2 years ago, but just started posting in the past few months.

Not necisarily a mute point, there are quite a few members who are only active posting photos of their trucks, not actually contributing anything to the community...But then again we're not communist so I guess I may not matter.. eitherway...

Gearhead61 08-02-2005 10:56 AM

Yeah i definitely think truck of the month needs to atleast have some relation to that member's activity on the boards, even if it's only a minimal contribution. I think 25 posts and 60 days is pretty fair. How does that sound?

jtslmn720 08-02-2005 11:42 AM

yea i like the 25post and member for 60 days thing, keeps the ringers out lol

winks 08-02-2005 11:51 AM

sounds good. another idea to get around the post count could be to make sure the member has had activity within a certain amount of time.

Shalafi49 08-02-2005 12:01 PM

Bah..I don't like TOTM :)

KARPE 08-02-2005 12:02 PM

how will those who are nominated know that they have been nominated, will there be a thread or by PM or what?

Strider0O0 08-02-2005 12:08 PM

sounds like its pretty well put now.

so, was there any serious talk as to what the winners get? i mean besides being on the front page. i was just wondering about the other stuff mentioned.

[playing devils advocate]

Why would it be necisary to PM people? We have been having a disscusion over the level of member activity that should be required to be nominated and if a member is not active enough to look at one thread a month where he/she may have been nominated for TOTM then how active are they really? That question right there is the perfect reason why we need some sort of firm rule about level of activity and contribution to the comunity.

Discuss.

[/playing devils advocate]

Gearhead61 08-02-2005 01:57 PM

^Precisely. There is a period of 5 days for nominees to respond with their picture, profile, etc. I think that in itself is sort of a tribute to how active that member would need to be. So 25 posts, 2 months activity, and their own response in the time allowed sound good?

KARPE 08-02-2005 01:59 PM

I just assumed that we probably wont have a new thread every month for everyone to argue about whos truck they like best every month. that just an invatation for a ban fest. i figured it would be PM or nominate button, vote button and announce it otherwise this will get out of hand...or not we got some pretty good moderators......
