transfer case chain slack
transfer case chain slack
Hi ,I have a Ranger 2006 4x4 auto . Does anyone know how to take the slack out of the drive chain inside the transfer case ?? Where is the chain tensioner adjuster located ?? Thanks Bud
With the rear wheels off the ground, turn the rear driveshaft at the slip shaft opposite of one another. you will probably find there is play in the slip shaft. mark the two pieces of the driveshaft, remove the boot, clean out all the grease and install ford PTFE grease and re-assemble

Whats fords PTFE grease?
yes it is a boot that covers the slip shaft
it is the grease that ford specifies to use in the slip shaft
it is very important you mark the two pieces before disassembly, or the phasing of the driveshaft will be off and youll get some awesome vibrations.

Up date .
Thanks for the info all . I desided to adjust the reverse plantary band . On a hunch I was right . The band was 1& 1/2 rounds off . Took about 2 hours an there are no more wind up .It's like new . Thanks all . Bud
