Transmission

I have a tk5 style transmission just had it out doing a rear main repair put it back in I put a new tail seal on the trans and filled it back up with fluid and I'm leaking out of the top of the shifter and possibly the tail seal or its dripping and running back I cleaned out the vent tub I stuck a brush wire down there and didnt really get anything out dont know what's going on I cleaned it off the other day and drove it again and its leaking what's wrong here this is a 87 trans it's old not much info on it

You used 80w or 90w gear oil right, not ATF like the later models transmissions

Is it over full?
All fluids expanded when heated so if its too full then it will be forced out somewhere

Its a toyo kogyo 5 speed

Yes I used 80 90 I filled it when I was putting the truck back together so it was cold and I filled it from the side plug the fill spot and I pumped it in there till it started to come back out the fill spot it was a little less then how much u told me it would take but its coming out the top of the shifter what should I do should I pull the bolt back out the fill spot and let it come out of it till its level with the fill spot do I do it when it's hot or cold idk

Fill hole is for cold oil, well room temp oil

But it would have to get very hot to get as high as shifter

Don't know, was the shifter HOT, you should feel that much heat
