Transmission fluid

I’m going to be putting a new filter and draining my transmission fluid and I don’t know how much fluid I need I have a 1995 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 automatic

1995 and up 2WD used 9.9 quarts, 4x4 has deeper pan so 10.3 quarts, bone dry

But it won't be "bone dry", there will be quite a bit left in torque converter, as much as 3 quarts

Fill it to the mark on dipstick
Then start engine and it will drop down, then top it up
Drive it then check it again
