truck option
truck option
i just bought a 2009 ranger xlt sport 4.0 4x4 and i don't have stuff like the window sticker to know all the option it has, so i was wondering if there was some way to know it like with the niv or something like that? Plus it has 10" drum brake so it has the towing package? so does it mean it has a lsd diff? (seems to be open)
Welcome to the forum
Go here and get the 2009 Ford Ranger brochure: Auto-Brochures.com|Ford Car & Truck PDF Sales Brochure/Catalog/Flyer/Info Aerostar Bronco Bronco II C-Max Contour Crown Victoria E-Series Econoline Edge Elite Escape Escort Excursion Expedition Explorer Explorer Sport F-150 F-250 F-350 F-450 Festiva
Then you can see what was Standard and what was optional on your model
You can look at the drivers door label to see things like Springs and AXLES, look here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...le_codes.shtml
This will tell you what rear axle you have and the ratio of front and rear, they are the same ratio
Front is always OPEN on 4x4s
Most 4x4s had L/S rear axles, but not all
Towing package came with 2nd transmission cooler if you have an automatic, so look under front bumper, in front of radiator for that
This was often a Dealer added option along with rear bumper and sometimes overload springs
You may be able to write to Ford and get a copy of original window sticker "as sold", check with Ford dealer on how to do that, you do have to pay for it
Yes, you can often get details from your VIN, but most "free sites" I have used were wrong on most things, lol, so you get what you pay for
The VIN has the trucks serial number at the end, that's the only place Options can be found so you need access to Fords Serial Number data base
This one just gives you the general data in a Ford truck VIN: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/vindecoder.php

Thanks,
for the door sticker sadly its gone because the door was change after a crash and the tag on the diff is gone too so i dont really have info like that, but if i look on what you send all the 4.0 automatic supercab could tow over 5000lbs (i could be wrong) and it would have a 3.73 gear ratio since 4.10 is only on fx4, and yes it has the radiator cooler and the 4pins connector at the back and it looks to have an added load leaf (dont know if they all have it) so with the 10" brake and the hitch i could assume it had the towing package.
For the lsd rear diff its weird, i lift it and turn one wheel and the other turn oposite way (like an open diff does) and i try with one blocked and i could still turn the other but it was difficult, outside i was in snow and press the brake and give gas and only right wheel was turning but in 4x4 in snow the 2 rear wheels were turning so does 4x4 make lock the rear diff ?

Its an open differential if wheels spin in different directions, no doubt on that
No, 4WD doesn't change open or L/S
But with one front wheel pulling both rears may spin even with brakes on
4.10 was an option on all models except the FX4, it only came with 4.10
Next time you have rear axle off the ground mark the drive shaft and inside of one wheel, block front tire and shift to Neutral
Turn drive shaft and count the turns
If it turns 3 and 3/4 for 1 full turn of the tire then its a 3.73
It it turns 4 times then its a 4.10

Thanks, really appreciate.
and if i want to make it lsd should i go after market or put an stock lsd set in it?
if it could help with ratio it run 2000rpm at 100kmh/60mph on slightly bigger tire

You swap in a Ranger or Mazda B-Series L/S axle of the same ratio, 1993-2009
You don't want RPMs at 2,000 at 60mph, 2,200 would be better with 4.0l SOHC
Lower RPM is not always better MPG
The power band of the engine also comes into play, because you need power to keep the 3,500lbs vehicle at 60MPH
4.0l SOHC makes best power at 2,900rpm so you don't want RPM to be too far away from that, or you will be using MORE gas to keep it at that speed
