lol i have the 3.73 gears running 33's with a 4" lift powered by a 3.0! highway get up and go just blows, but get me in the deep mud and 4low and i havent been able to get my lil truck stuck other than getting the pumkin hung on a rock, but in all fairness i was in 2 high when that happend! lol the milage is around 15-18 mpg on the interstate doing 75mph! all depends on what you want a truck for! mine is work and mudd, so it is what it is!

3.0

I love my 3.0. Other than a new water pump at 90,000 miles,I've had "O" problems.
I change oil more than needed, every 3000 miles. With full synthentic 5w20.I give it a dose of Lucas upper cylinder/fuel injecter cleaner, every time,or everyother tlme
I fill up the gas tank,I swear by that stuff ! I clean my MAF and IAC sensers every 3-4 months. It will get up and go when I need it to.It runs so smooth, you can hardly
tell the engine is running.I never haul ***,and do dumb ****.All that, mabey, thats why my Rangers 3.0 runs so good.
see ya,old retired guy

Mine is lifted with 4.56 gears and 35" tires and a large winch bumper and winch and averages 18.5-19 mpg. I have a gibson cat back exhaust and k&N air filter with modified airbox. Past chassis was a 2.3 4 cyl and if you wheel you will definitely see more power out of the 3.0.

🤠 I agree 💯% My '04 3.0 XLT Xtra cab gets 22/18 and I Love My Sonic Blue Truck. I have used Fuelio App and I get to log miles and expenses with cool reports.
(I have nothing to do with them...just a member's recommendation.)

Wao! I'm encouraged by this.
The arguments against the 3.0l seems to be more.

Hi. My 2002 Envoy got Tboned awhile back. the lns co totaled it. l refused to let it go as it was still very drivable. A year later l decided lt was time for pickup. Looking at midsize rides the prices were shocking. The larger new ones cost more than my HOUSE. l decided to look for something used. Daddy always had FORDS. l remember Mama, Daddy, my sister and me going to see Granma in Conway from Charleston in a 46 Ford pickup. Daddy at the wheel, Sister in the middle, with me in Mama's lap. These days we would be ticketed for driving unsafe. 1950-52 it was NORMAL. l didn't realize how small a Ford pickup really was til l saw a friend's 41 a few years back.
Back on subject. l decided l wanted a 2011 or older Ranger ExtraCab. l was leaning toward the 3litre V6. My son had a 2000 Mazda 3000 with that motor. He had amassed over 300k since bought new. lt was his daily driver/work truck for 20+yrs before a crazy driver ran a red light some months back killing it. With a diligent months long search l finally found what l was looking for this past week. A little white 2007 ExtraCab is now sharing the garage with my 2010 FJ Cruiser. Low miles @77,000. Nothing fancy about this truck. Manuel windows, locks, and transmission. No clicker either. lt has the 3litre V6. Quite enlightening to read about this motor. 60deg V6, cast iron block and heads. OHV. It was designed to be workhorse. the 60degree layout is no stranger to Ford. Those original 32 V8 Flatheads were 60degree Vee engines. Same as Ford's new Godvilla 7.3liter OHV gas truck engine in the Super Duty Trucks. l'm very pleased with my ''NEW'' Ranger. This little 3liter is amazingly quiet compared to the V6 in my FJ. I have found a friend

The manual trans is better suited for the 3 Litre as it allows you to rev up to over 3200 RPM, or even better 4200 when you want to enter the freeway shifting through the gears.
The automatic changes gears too soon and doesn't allow the engine to get into it's torque curve.

Checking online specs,07 Ranger 3litre V6 is 148HP@4900rpm. With no rev limit shown, likely its power peak rpm would be TOPS. Ford door sticker states the rear axle is a ''96'' or 4.10 gear. With the 5sp stick and 4.10 rear it keeps up well with traffic. lt feels as strong as my last pickup, An 04 Nissan Frontier V6 3litre@170hp. lt was 5sp stick 4wd w/4.30 rear gear.

That's precisely why I stayed with the original size tires, and removed the side steps on my 3.0L.

3.0 V6 Ranger general impressions

I agree. People forget the 3.0 V6 was also used in the Taurus, which helped it achieve ample power and decent economy, and was modified in the Ranger. As a result, the 3.0 Ranger seems a bit sluggish for a car in general, even though it gets decent economy for a 6 cylinder truck (20 mpg). It's a happy median for people like me who just need something useful, reliable, and comfortable. Trucks that are pretty fast include the GMC Cyclone and certain V6 Tacomas. They secret being they were made really lightweight.

Almost to 200k in my 3.0. Bought it with 42k and the only issues I've had are fluid leaks, cam synchronizers, and a few sensors and IACs. The engine itself has never given me an issue and is as reliable as they come.

I'm still loving my little 3.0 V6. l bumped the governor the other day @ 93. Wife asked, ''What was that?'' l got to thinking. My buddy's $70k 2020 F250 diesel will do ''NINETY-SIX''.. I guess he does have bragging rights But not those $1065 truck notes

The 3.0 seems to be overall a good motor, I have heard of coolant leak and head gasket issues, but I'd say that's rare. I have a 2001 standard cab with the 3.0, still runs like new, have a co-worker have one with 350k miles still running when he traded it. However, yes power isn't wonderful, only slightly more powerful than a 4 banger. As for gas mileage, that's not great either, expect arond 17mpg.

Oil change on my 07 yesterday @ 85079 miles on Wed June 1, 2022 was my second change since purchasing ''NEW'' with 78k in March 2021. 4.10 rear, 5sp man, 3.0 litre. l can get 20mpg on the road as long as l stay below 3000rpm in 5th gear. (app 70mph). Engine is 15yrs old now.
l have not seen any leaks on engine or the truck. l had the rear brakes redone recently to ''cure'' an emergency brake problem. l had everything on the rear, including drums, backing plates, wheel cylnders, cable, shoes. Bad motor will strand you. Bad brakes wiill KILL YOU. l have no
complaints about the power or gas mileage. l've put a thousand miles on it twice on one way trps. Just stopped for gas. No problems. l bought the Ranger because of its size. l neither want or need ANYTHING bigger.
Growing up we only had a pickup first 8 yrs of my life. Twas a 46 Ford the famly used for everything. Visiting Gramma 125 miles away , Mama, Daddy, my sister and me all sat on the same seat. Seeing a friend's 41 Ford pickup l cant imagine tryng it today.

Back to gas mileage-My 3.0 is not terriibly efficient. l have a 2010 FJ Cruiser 2wd that gets about 20mpg on the road. its a V6 too. Almost DOUBLE the power @ 270bhp. 4litre DOHC 4valve

1989 v6 4x4. Took a 3000 mi trip in Jan and averaged 22-24 mpg. I am not a hot foot and did not need 4wd but I am liking the vehicle. I like the good visibilityandmanueverability. Use a shell in the winter and drop it for summer. Good to have high clearance for some of the roads in Wyoming where I live.

What is your opinion of the 3.0L V6 motor?

Good and reliable semi decent fuel economy I have a 2004 xlt on 28s and I can slide it 😂 but decent power and if your up for it easy to mod the engines run literally forever like up to 400,000 miles type of forever all around good small truck for a daily truck/work truck do be warned if you somehow get it up to 95 it won’t go any faster just starts to lag itself like jerking forward due to redline

No redline. Speed limiter. Just about ALL Ford trucks are limited to 93-96mph, except Ford Raptors and law enforcement vehcles. Watching ''Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds'' on youtube
lt seems like Raptors were lmited to 110mph
