Recently I bought a 1989 ranger 2.9l v6 4x2 4+OD xlt 93k; to make a long story short, I spun out and caved the driver side of the cab in. My friend who works in a body shop said it's unfixable as is,
my question is: would I be able to swap my cab and bed with a 2nd gen body and bed?
It's my first car and I really don't want to get rid of it and will fix it no matter the effort, and I'm having a hard time finding clean first gen rangers in ohio

The body mounting points to the frame are the same as far as I know
The 1993-1997 bodies are 2" wider so you would need to swap over the whole body, from bumpers, hood, to rad support, also rewire firewall plugs
I think your friend just means its not cost effective to repair the damage, not that it can't be repaired

Look for left door in your area, and maybe they will have a good left side, extended cab
Yes, you are correct that is when my friend implied, I was mostly looking for answers on the body swap question. Thank you very much for the reply, and I found a site Imctrucks.com for what I would need to repair, I'm just curious what would be more economical.. Swap or repair/cost for fabrication?
I looked at LMC Truck and they didn't have the 1989-1992 parts you need?
They have 1993-1997 parts
In the "old days" labor was cheap and parts expensive
Now-a-days labor is expensive and parts are cheap
Which is why DIY is popular
If you can find the parts YOU can just bolt on to do the repair then thats the way to go
But not sure you can because the B-pillar(where back side of door latches) looks like its bent, so that whole section needs to be cut out and then a new section rewelded back into place, and thats expensive work
Thank you very much for the info and yes LMCtrucks has what I need, and the entire driver side of the cab is caved in about 6-8in, I spun out getting on the freeway and hit a guardrail at about 20-25 mph, narrowly missed a tractor/trailer, I would need: floor, door, rocker, and bottom of the xtd cab section
