Upgrading axles from 99 to 05. Brake size issue

Got a 99 Ranger 4x4 where I upgraded to all wheel drive using CVs and wheel bearing hubs out of an 05 Ranger. This deletes the Vaccum hubs. The 99 rotors fit sloppy on the new 05 hubs as the studs on a 99 are wider at the base. The 05 rotors are also slightly larger in diameter. My question is, can the 99 brake pads still work on the larger 05 rotors without scraping the calipers? If not, should I have the 05 rotors trimmed down the same size as the 99? My other idea is to use 05 calipers but I’m not sure they will bolt up to the 99 knuckle?

Hoping to not have to buy new 05 knuckles, calipers and brackets.

You mean you converted PVH to Live Axle, its still 4WD
AWD means no 4low and front and rear drive lines are always powered

But in any case I don't have an answer for you

No, you don't want to trim down anything, you want off the shelf parts because you WILL need to change brake pads and/or rotor sooner than later

I didn't know they changed front brake design for Live Axle but I guess they did
Try all 2005 parts, rotor, caliper, pads, and test fit one front wheel on the new hub

This is an article about doing what you did: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...9hubswap.shtml

But doesn't mention anything about the brakes, so may be the explorer hubs worked with the 1999 Ranger brake set up?????

I’m now thinking of pulling the larger wheel studs out of the 99 hubs and drill out the 05 hubs to accept the 99 studs.

Did you check out the cost of say a 2000 Explorer 4WD/AWD hub?

Not sure about the stud size but should be the same as Rangers, Explorer never got PVH, they went right to Live Axle

I have the time to look into that option. Of course I already purchased new 05 hubs to work with the new CVs but it’s worth a check. I’d like to keep everything standardized so it’s not a modification every round.
