When I bought my truck used last year I got the extended warranty thrown in for good measure. Well since I've modded my truck every time I've brought it in they have told me I have voided the warranty because of all the mods, so it's really not worth it if you ask me. Save your money and put into mods.

My 2003 Ranger had 31,500 miles on it when I bought it, I opted for a 3 year/36,000 mile extended warranty from Ford. I had to pay a few bucks a month extra for it, but I feel it's worth it...have you priced out a new motor or tranny lately ???? Besides, it kind of makes me feel like I got a new truck with a 3 year warranty.

I know a guy who's engine went out on him, the mechanic's bill was around $5,000 by the time they got done with him.....my sister recently had to replace her transmission in her van...total cost ?? around $2,000. Seriously, have you priced out any mechanical work, nothing is cheap anymore. In my case, I'm not able to do any heavy mechanical work myself, so I have to rely on mechanics......so having a warranty makes sense to me.

I bought my 01 back in February 07 and was able to get a Ford 2 year/24k base care ext warranty for about $800 if i remember correctly. The truck had 68k miles on it so I was pretty certain I would get the use out of it. So far they have replaced the ball joints, gauge cluster and timing chain tensioners. I believe the tensioner replacement alone was close to $800.
My last car was an accord which i had an extended 100k mile powertrain warranty on. At around 85k the transmission went out. It was a little over 4 grand to get it replaced. Well worth the extra money up front.
We bought our Grand Cherokee used with only 21k miles on it and got a 4 year/48k ext warranty on it for around $1600 which covers basically everything the orginal warranty does. Its nice to know that we are covered for the whole time we are making payments on it.

if u get a warranty, make sure you get one that is by ford. 3rd party warranty companies have a tendency to stay in business for only a couple of years, and then they file for bankruptcy, and ur out the warranty and your money.
