I was supposed to have today off, but I had so much work to do I had to come into work anyway, but I did sleep in. So I had to park on the roof of the parking garage, in today's 100 degree plus weather. I put up my reflective sunvisor and went into to work for a few hours. Came back out, and after I took the reflector down I noticed a nice foot long crack in the center of the windshield. It starts at the bottom, and goes up about 5 inches, then hangs a left and goes towards the driver's side another 8 inches or so.

Damn! I'll check and see what the dealership says, because the heat is also messing with my "door ajar" sensor. It takes it several minutes sometimes to realize the door is closed to turn off the dome light, or to give me my 2nd beep when arming the alarm. Only happens when it's hot out.

So I'm gonna play up the angle that the cab may not be 100% true and is warping under the heat. Hopefully I'll get a new windshield and the door ajar sensor fixed, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

actually i think i heard if you really haggle with em, you can get them to take it as a defective windshield. If there is no chip where it starts you have a shot.

Take a ballpoint pen (like a cheap 10cent pen)
Run it along the crack in the windshield. If it doesnt hang up anywhere..
You have a decent change (defective windshield)
If it hangs up you had a rock chip it.. and the heat just made it spread.

it's actually really close to the cowl, so I doubt a rock caused it. But it did occur the one and only day I had the truck parked in the sun. I believe it is 100% caused by heat, and that's the angle I'm gonna use.

I've run my findernail across it, and you can't even feel the crack, but you can definitely see it. So definitely no rock chip caused it. Just heat, and the cab expansion and/or defect. But it should crack just because of heat, unless something was wrong with it.

I'm glad I don't live in TX, or any other states that get that hot.
