Went to start 2000 Ranger but just clicks ? Not turning over…
So I drove to get gas, pumped the gas, got in and….nothing? Just the click sound? Was driving fine before that. All lights work, battery is good, etc.
Could it be a starter or some type of relay or pump or something?
I have it here in my driveway now. If anyone can advise me on what to look at, look for, whatever! I really don’t have cash to have it taken to a shop right now.
Any help is greatly appreciated

If you hear the "click" with key turned to START then starter may be bad
Most common reason for just the one "click" is dirty Battery terminals, with all the electrics on, i.e. lights and heater fan on high, that might draw 30amps, Starter Motor needs 60-75 AMPs so ALOT MORE
So "lights work" doesn't mean it's not dirty battery cables, just FYI
Easiest way to test starter is to use a jumper wire
In a 2000 there is a Starter Relay in the engine fuse box, relay #6, you can pull that one relay out and use jumper wire from slot 30 to 87 and starter should active if its good
Relay slot diagram here: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/images/m...iring-840x.jpg
If you have your 2000 Manual around page 145 is the engine box fuse/relay diagram
If you don't you can download it here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
Make sure trans is in PARK or Manual in Neutral, block tires, KEY OFF and in your pocket
Use a jumper wire from slot 30 to slot 87 and starter motor should activate, if not starter motor is bad
30 to 87 is only about 4 amps, not the 60-75amps, just FYI, so smaller wire is fine to use, not Jumper Cable size, lol
Starter motors rarely have "warning signs", just don't work one day, much like fuel pumps, just won't come on one day no previous signs of trouble
Electric motors just fail that way one day
