While looking at the tag to see what rear diff I have, I saw a black can about the size of a large juice can on the frame above the rear axle. What is it?

That's the EVAP Charcoal canister, catches and filters gasoline fumes from gas tank
Its an active system when engine is running, computer monitors EVAP system for leaks and applies vacuum to it to suck fumes out as gasoline sloshes around when driving
