what do you think of the new svt raptor

how do you feel bout it, what are your pros and cons on the new truck

i like the truck in a way for a trophy style truck
i just wish we still had the lightning, o and i wish the lightning bolt would of made the production line. i do want to test drive a raptor.

korey89 10-08-2009 10:23 AM

Kinda cool, but I don't see all the hype. You could buy a normal new F150 and put a better long travel kit on it, glass, and wheels/tires for cheaper.

fordlife 10-08-2009 10:32 AM

in a few years i wanna get one and actually use it not just drive it on the street like i do my ranger lol

Jimmeh 10-08-2009 10:33 AM

I still don't know what to think of it.

HAZZARDJOHN 10-08-2009 10:36 AM

it's OK, not my type of truck.

whippersnapper02 10-08-2009 10:36 AM

Meh. Nice truck but I'd never get one. I'd rather build something better and more capable. Also for the price I'd rather get a diesel. Most of then are going to be bought by rich idiots that will drive them on the street and maybe park on a rock to take a flex pic anyway.

04blackedge 10-08-2009 11:04 AM

I'd get one if I could find any reason to actual use it. I'd rather just have a Lariat though, I don't need mid travel around here.

99ranger4x4 10-08-2009 11:12 AM

I may get one in a few years when I can actually afford one.

They're cool, sure I know i can build a far more capable truck for way less money but w/e, its cool haha

how many prerunner rangers can you seat 5 in?

mikerider 10-08-2009 12:23 PM

I love the truck, the thing that makes it for me are the electronics, the revamped, abs control, hill decent, throttle remap and different shift points all at the touch of a button. and for 39K its a great price for what you get, sure you could take a base model 2009 XLT SuperCab Styleside 6-1/2 ft Box 5.4L 3V EFI V8 FFV Engine Electronic 6-Speed Automatic Transmission with Tow/Haul Mode 4X4 3.73 Limited Slip Axle Ratio $34,570 and build it up but for 4k more you get a ton of interior upgrades the electronics and the suspension, tires and wheels, fenders, skid plates gears, locker, ect all ready to go from the factory.

whippersnapper02 10-08-2009 12:31 PM

If you need hill decent then you shouldn't be offroading. Hell if you need any electronics then you shouldn't be offroading. Whenever I wheel ABS is off. If my vehicle had traction control then that would be turned off as well. Electronics can sometimes do more harm than good.

No you can't. I said it in another thread about the Raptor and ill say it again. A base 4x4 F150 XL supercab with the 5.4L starts at almost $33K.

For the $5K more, you mean to tell me that you can get it loaded to the capabilities of the Raptor? The base XL interior SUCKS compared to whats in the Raptor as well. The long travel kit alone probably costs more than that.

For that, id rather have the warranty, nice interior and something that wont creak and rattle every time it hits.. uhh... anything.

MSRP is 33.You can go to the dealer and get them for about 26. Also the Raptor will have stupid dealer markups. So it will probably sell for about 45-50K. For that cash I'll take a 2500HD thanks.

Sixt9coug 10-08-2009 12:46 PM

Ive seen a couple Raptors out there with no markup. Plus its NEW so its normal for anything to have a markup on it. The gouging will die down in a few months.

Even for 10K, id like to see someone get the long travel (even for our trucks a Dixon Bros setup is like $5K for the just the kit), the body panels, have it all painted and not be stuck in some XL stripper interior model.

The Raptor would probably actually have appeal to someone when it comes time to sell it too. How many clapped together prerunners and trail trucks do we see on Craigslist for super cheap?

Oh, and whats said everytime someone tries to sell their modded truck on here? Mods dont add resale value and often HURT it. I bet a Raptor wont depreciate nearly as much as a modded truck.

yes electronics CAN hurt offroad profromance . But they are nice to have as options, to me it would be great to have the option to push buttons to turn down (offroad mode) or turn off abs Offroad sport mode) as opposed to having to pull a fuse or wire in a switch. As far as the hill decent goes I would be afraid to use it because I am so used to modulating my brakes and using my gears but its a nice option to have out in the back country. Thats whats neat about this truck, you can go from DD gas saving electronics to go rip up the desert with some electronic nannies or shut them all off and drive. Same basic premise as a tuner for our rangers, you can change the truck to suit your needs and driving style but unlike a programmer the tunes are at the touch of a few buttons from the factory, how cool is that.

whippersnapper02 10-08-2009 12:58 PM

It is still too much hype for this truck. It is just a F150.

WOW. I honestly didn't believe you, so I went and built some trucks on the website. WTF is up with fords retardedly high pricing, back in 05 my dads truck was the most expensive you could get a 150 (minus 4x4 and a sunroof) and sticker was 40 grand. If you spend 30 grand on an XL you're totally hopeless.

Now that I see that, I'd rather just get a used previous gen 150 crew cab and build that.

I agree, its retarded for how much the want with these trucks. My truck retailed for 38k and it just has power windows and doors, no EATC, steering wheel controls, leather or anything and that was 4 years ago.

It may be over hyped but it is something completely new from a manufacturer and thats advertising for you everything gets over hyped. :biggthump

Downey 10-08-2009 01:29 PM

I think this truck would be good for someone that hunts alot so they dont have such a rough ride off road in a fields or other places. i could see owning one but not a brand new one there way to much wait a couple years and find one cheaper

Yes. its JUST an F150 that has no other competition in this segment. Name another full size truck that will do what this one does.

Yeah they are pricey. People always forget that cars and trucks nowadays are EXPENSIVE! Regardless of who makes them. I remember shopping for cars in 1996 with my mom and seeing brand new Mustang Cobras on the lot for $28K. I thought the Terminators were pricey at $35K. Now what do they cost? lol.

FWIW, a Tacoma Crew Cab TRD Off Road package with only their TRD Special Option extra value package (Toyota doesnt have alot of options you can select on their own, often if you want one thing, you have to buy a ton of other things you may not want or need) is also almost $33K.

$33K for a Tacoma? Thats smoking crack. So its not specific to any manufacturer. They are ALL expensive. Lets talk about Accords that are almost $40K now :D

I don't really care if this truck can do more. Its just a F150.

I''d rather have the Tacoma. Its about 200% better than anything Ford can come up with. Also Tacos sell for about 28K with everything.

40K for an Accord? You are the one smoking crack now. My uncle just bought a bran new Accord with everything. V6, navigation, leather and rims. He got the car for 28K.

04blackedge 10-08-2009 01:42 PM

Yeah the most fully loaded accord only goes for 31k. Of course we're talking list prices not what you would actually pay.

First it was worthless because it costs too much and one can be built from scratch that will do more for cheaper. Then we found out that wasnt true.
So now its worthless because your opinion states so?

Fact. One can't build a brand new truck as a total package of the Raptor for cheaper.

Fact. No other manufacturer builds a full size truck that has the capabilities of the Raptor.

Fact. Yes it's expensive, and other manufacturers have vehicles that surpass it in price easily as well. Even Ford has F150s that cost more and do less.

Opinion. You dont care for it.

Opinion. Id bet a 2500HD would do worse off road than a Raptor. Its a hell of alot heavier, and bigger in most trim levels. Does that make it bad? No, its just not tailored to that purpose.

Ive seen a friends 2500HD get stuck in the gravel at Las Vegas Speedway's parking lot and have to get pulled out by an F150. Anecdotal? yes it sure is.

Cool story bro. Don't blame the truck for your friends mistakes.

I have seen a Ranger fry the 4wd switch and computer at the same time. Oh wait. It was my Ranger. I didn't know using 4wd was so expensive.

Go to Toyota's website. $32K for a 4x4 TRD packaged Crew Cab. All i added was their option packages with the LSD and a roof rack (i see lots like that, im going with whats commonly out there)

The Accord's highest trim level STARTS at $31K. Playing with that and adding ONLY a set of their optional wheels got me to over $35K for a V6 Coupe with an auto trans. (they charge the same for auto or manual) Add the factory sport body kit to the car (yes, i see them out there like that too) and the price swells from there.

I know alot of Rangers are sold used, but christ it sounds like you've never bought a new car before. They cost alot and options get out of hand fast if you dont watch it.
