what exactly do i own lol

i got a question, i have a 1999 ranger stepside, with a 3.0 v6. i was wondering if it is a supercab or an extended cab. or what exactly it is. i read that the 99 supercab has a class 3 frame mounted hitch, mine has a bumper mounted hitch and has a different look from ther other ranger supercabs i have seen. i will attach a pic of my truck and maybe someone can help. just a lil confused cuz of all the different trims. my main goal is to fin out the size of the rear end. thanx to anyone who can help.

Its a supercab, i think.
Back in the day you either got Regular cab, or supercab, which is what you have there. all ranger bumpers have the hole for the hitch, and unless you got yourself a towing package, or at one point somebody installed a hitch, then you wouldn't have one from factory. to me it looks like a pretty normal ranger.

Extended and super cabs are the same.

To find axle size you will have to look at the axle tag or door tag

4 door extended cab or 2 door extended cab, doesn't matter. Both are called "SuperCab" in FordSpeak.

Right, Supercab was started with the generation of rangers before mine, and it didn't have doors that opened until 00+ i believe. they just kept the name. i think Extended cab actually is a Chevy term.

Supercab and extended cab are the same but the names come from different manufacturers. Nissan uses King Cab and I believe it was Dodge that used/uses the name Extended cab same as Toyota but Ford has used the term Supercab since the 70's. Four door ford trucks are called Crewcabs. (my spelling might be wrong on the Crewcab word). GM never made a Extended cab truck untill 88 and before that they called the four door GM's 3x3's.

There is an add in this link for a 79 Ford Supercab.
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1970-1...d-trucks10.htm

If you read here it says Dodge came up the term Extended cab in 73 and Ford came out with the Supercab in 74.

You are correct. I can't tell you how many times I have corrected people between the difference. "Oh I have a 2004 Ranger Supercab XLT 4.0 4x4..." "Do the rear doors open up?" "Uh no." "Then it is extended cab, not supercab."

But I guess Ford calls them both Supercab for 00+

Trade names like King Cab, Cab Plus, Extended Cab and SuperCab are used interchangeably by the general public and car dealers all the time. This is similar to Styleside, Fleetside and Sweptline straight side beds or Flareside, Stepside or Utiline fendered beds.

However, Ford's name for the "cab and a half" pickup body style has been SuperCab since 1974. It has nothing to do with whether it has 2 doors only or 2 doors plus 2 half doors. It is Ford's trade name for both.

1974 F-series SuperCab (2-door) brochure:

The Ranger 2-door SuperCab was introduced in the 1986 model year and the 4-door SuperCab Ranger was added during 1998MY.
