drive - OD off
engine would rev way too high in 1st and putting it in 2nd keeps it there
you might need the higher revs of 1st to get into the power band so you don't want to be stuck in 2nd

I would agree with that, the two times I was ever COMPLETELY stuck in my old '96 Bronco was cuz I was puttering along low speed, low rpm and it got hairy fast. Since then I've always kept speed up as long as its safe and haven't had problems, even in stuff way worse than what stopped Big Bronc.
