We might be getting rid of the new TT we just got last month. Due to an insurance issue with my employer (not caused by me) the company lease vehicle insurance is going to be dropped. Either I will be required to bring my own, or a new company will be brought in and in either case it will raise the cost of having this car. I can terminate the lease in August at no cost to me. If that happens I need a new car, so...

I was thinking either an '04 Mustang Cobra, or an '05 Mustang GT. (No '05 Cobras are available, but I've seen the '06 on the road around here and you're going to like it) Bear in mind that I get z plan on Ford vehicles and discounts on Audi and VW vehicles. VW does zero for me, Audi does little for me. I don't think I get a deal on Lamborghini. I am slightly considering an Evo III as well.

What do you think we should get?

Well... I vote for the 05 GT simply because you already had a Cobra, time for somthing new :)

Or you could get a Jetta, put a little Roxy sticker in the window you'll be stylin! (j/k)

I love the styling of the '05 'stangs, the GT sounds like it'd be a big pile of fun! The guy down the hall here at work keeps threatening to get a soft-top for a 'summer car'. Personally I can't stand the Evo III's. I think Mitsu-shitzy is the worst car maker out there these days, second only to maybe Dae Woo. But then I love VeeDubs and Audi's, so clearly our tastes are a little different. My dream garage has an Audi S4 Quatro in one bay..

ummm I'm not what you all are smokin, but the Evo is one of the best made cars, it uses a block that has been around since 1990 when started i nthe first eclipses, yup the 4g63 block is what i'm tlaking about, it's all about performance and would give a Cobra a run for it's money if not smoke the snot outta it. There is nothing wrong with an import, hell I was gonna say get an STi, but since you are hinting on the 05 GT... what a hard choice... what are your plans? to just cruise in style? (05 GT) to cruise in style and have fun? (04 Cobra), or just go wild and crazy and have a badass car to boot? (STi or Evo ) just my opinion, you seem VERY well knowledged about automobiles so I'm sure you can make a sound choice.

While I'd like another truck, and unless they have a diesel Ranger by then, I'll probably be going with a hybrid. And, since the only hybrid that's small enough that I could afford will that's "American" made would be an Escape hybrid, so I'll probably go for one of those.

If I go for a car though, I'm probably going to go for a Mercury Marauder.

Marauders are very nice. I see one rolling around in my apartment complex and it's just plain mean looking. But the 05 Mustang has my vote.

Hey man, to each his/her own! I just don't like them. I don't like the look, the price, or the tech. I have heard so many bad things about Mitsu-shitzy recently that I'll take my chances and stay the hell away. There's a long list of cars I'd rather have, regardless of the tech involved or which one is faster (on paper or the street). Quite frankly I've always been a fan of displacement over tech (ie super/turbo chargers, nitrous, etc). After all, it is the American way!

I test drove the WRX and (very briefly) looked at the STI. The STI is completely over the top in my opinion. Personally speaking, I wouldn't want a car like that as a daily driver. It's too flashy and too trick. The WRX is a different story. It is a fun car that is also (largely) functional. In the end the price scared me away. I was having trouble getting into the non-WRX Impreza for what I could get a loaded Ranger for. In the end the Subaru salesman and I started talking bikes while his boss was in the other room pretending to run numbers on my trade and get me into a car. He said that he was going to get an STI, but bought a bike instead. He said he'd keep the bike to go fast and get something else for the rainy days. I agreed, stood up, thanked him for his time and walked out. To this day I wonder if he realizes how he blew the sale..

I would go for the '05 GT. The EVO VIII isn't a bad car, but I wouldn't look at it for a daily driver. Like the STI the EVO is (or at least was meant to be) a rally car.

I like the Evo and the STI.. The Evo however is notorious for having a dogcrap clutch.. The STI is a sweeet car, and I don't know how you would think its not a "daily driver" but a Cobra is??? lets see, AWD and 4 doors or a Cobra with 2 doors and won't go straight on anyless than perfectly dry pavement..

STI or the Evo, even though they do have the boy-racer look. 05 GT sounds nice too, but if i had patience, i would wait for the cobra later.

Buy a life... I'll take that as a comment brought about by jealousy.

I drove our Cobra through three Michigan winters. It does just fine in the snow. SN95's are heavy and the '96 Cobra has an all aluminum engine so the weight balance is pretty good, meaning there is lots of weight on the rear. Never got stuck, always got where I was going. I've got the Ranger for backup anyway.

I've heard the Evo rides rough and gets old fast. I'm not sure I can put up with another four banger. The one in the TT is the smoothest I4 engine I have ever driven though. I think I need v8 power.

Funny you mention the S4, I came very close to getting one but didn't want to part with the extra $100 a month. Had to draw the line somewhere. I was going to get a white avant, I thought it would be a great sleeper. If the insurance works out and we keep the TT, I may get an S4 for '05. The plan was to wait for the '06 Cobra, cause it is going to be pretty sweet from what I have seen on the road around here. But if the Audis get too expensive for me (lease price goes up midstream) I will need to get something now and the cobra is not available.

Julie has spoken and ruled out the '04 Mustang unless we get a smokin deal.

I think if you drove a marauder you would change how you feel about it. I didn't like it. I drive all the Fords as part of my job, so I have already driven the '03 Cobra, mach 1 and regular GT, v-6 too. If you only have one car I agree with the get a bike if you want to go fast part.

why would i be jealous of you?

your aragent, snoby, stuck on yourself, think you know everything about everything, you just come off as the type of person i try not to be in everyday "real life" Dave, this is not to say that you are really like this in person, i have never met you, but from what i have seen on this and other forums i have pretty much summed you up into this class of people.
your the kind of guy that if you came into my shop i would hammer you with a huge repair bill just to get you out of my shop so i wouldn't have to deal with you.

Well it's too bad you feel that way. But, judging by your comments, it does not appear that I am missing out on anything by not having your respect or friendship.

For example, your statement that "from what you see on other forums" is clearly meant as an inflammitory comment as there is really only one other forum I post on, otherwise you would have said "other forum".

Two, that you would let your opinion of someone's worth, having been based on only a cursory knowledge of the person, lead you to cheat them out of an honest repair bill shows that you are someone who is not worth the business that you do have.

I would suggest that you relax and give things a little more time. If you say that you think that I believe that I "know everything", I assume that means you think some of the things I have said have been incorrect. If that is the case, please bring them to my attention as I like to learn things, even if I have been mistaken.

I'll give you a second chance, you never know when I may be able to help you with something.

Wow, sure doesn't sound the the Dave I know... but I'm going to stay out of this.

Oh, and I trust everything that Dave says... he may be the only person I would listen to with out second guessing....

Dave, my vote is still for the GT :)

Obviously we can agree to disagree on many issues, but I would never steer you wrong. I never say anything without being 100% sure and if that is not the case, I preface my comment with the words "I'm not sure but I think..." I have a very good reputation for this where I work, and many other places. You may not like me for other reasons but I think I get universal credit for not talking out my ***, and that's worth a lot more than some people think.
