What years ranger and explorer motors/interchange

I bought a 1993 4.0 with blown head gaskets for $200 bucks. Got the heads done from my body and he said they are to warped. So I need to know what year heads are interchangeable between rangers and explorers. Because the local pick and pull has a ton of explorers and only 1 ranger. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

You have a 4.0l OHV engine in a 1993 Ranger
Rangers and Mazda B4000s used the same 4.0l OHV engine from 1990 thru 2000

Explorers used the 4.0l OHV from 1991 to 2000 as well
BUT(big but) in 1997 they had an Optional 4.0l SOHC engine or V8 added, but still came with 4.0l OHV as base engine model until 2000, in 2001 Rangers and Explorers both had 4.0l SOHC as base model
So 1997 to 2000 Explorer could have either

SOHC engine in not related to the OHV except for displacement(4 Liter)

Ford Aerostar vans also used the 4.0l OHV from 1990 to 1997

The 1998-2000 4.0l OHV heads were different enough to be not recommended for use on earlier 4.0l OHV models, they will fit but there are differences
