Icon5 What's with these tires?

Hello,

First post on the fourms. Not sure if it's in the right section but I would appreciate your guys' help. I'm looking at new tires for my 2005 Ranger Edge Supercab 3.0L The OEM tires are P235/R15. I bought it with these tires on them, Hercules All-trac A/T ( 235/75R15 XL 109T Rim width:6.5 Max PSI:44 Max Load:2271 Outside diameter:28.86 Section width:9.25 Tread depth:12.5 28.9 Load range:XL).

First, question. Am I limited to using p-rated/euro metric tires or can I use an LT tire of basically the same dimensions/specs?

Second question. Goodyear doesn't say it will fit but a tire retailer (at least on-line ) says I can put LT rated wrangler duratrac on my truck. The specs are as follows (LT235/75R15 Speed:Q Index: 104 load range:C Max Load:1,985 Max PSI:50 Approved rim width:6.0-7.0 Measured rim width:6.5 Section width:9.3 Tread depth:18 Outside diameter:28.9 Revs/mile:724). I know you generally only use P or LT rated tires depending what the manufacturer says works best, but with a tire like the duratrac seems like it would work. Should I get the Duratracs for my ranger or is this a bad idea? What problems would I encounter using these tires?

Thanks a bunch

Welcome

They'll fit fine.
The 2wd Edge trim model sits just as high as any 4wd ranger (regardless of trim) so you could run a little larger of a tire if you wanted to as well but just keep an eye on the load rating. You don't want anything that is a D or E, it'll ride really stiff and wear incorrectly so C is perfect.

I can attest to the E loads riding stiff. My 265/75's are an E load tire as discount tire probably didn't have C or D in the size I wanted.
