My 4 banger calls for 5w-20. I know I can get it from the dealer but I'm looking for a discount shop and Kragen's and Costco don't carry this weight. Any ideas? Don't really want to go to Wal-Mart.

 

any auto store will have it, i dont reccoment going cheap, but its up to you. you get what you pay for

 

Murray's? O'Reiley's? I know for a fact that Wal-Mart has Motorcraft 5W-20. Synthetic blend. OEM quality.

Especially not on 5W20. It's pretty thin to begin with. I wouldn't cheap out on your lubricants if I were you.

 

As long as it's API certified, it will be fine.

 

All API certified means is the type of ingredients is proportional and the chemistry is "accepted". It doesn't indicate that the oil's quality is all that good. API certification meaning "all oils are the same" is a myth.

 

Here we go with the Scamsoil BS again!!! ALL US vehicle manufacturers specify API certified oil for warranty reasons, and they ALL can't be wrong!!!

API certification also means that the blending process is routinely monitored for variation, so your getting a consistant product! This is something Scamsoil doesn't do (with the exception of their 2 API certified oil products), and they try to deceive you that the rest of their oil proiducts are API certified!

 

i always get my oil from wally world... filters for the truck come from there too since they carry motorcraft but i get filters for the other cars from any auto parts place that has pureoilator

 

u serious man? motorcraft is only like 2.50 a qt. u only need like 4. how cheap u wanna go?

In answer to the question, walmart is as cheap as I have seen in my area. Just get a 5 quart jug of motorcraft from there and you should be good. I think its only 10 bucks....

5w-30 will be fine with no problems in your truck if you can't find 5w-20. The difference you will NEVER see or feel.

 

Yes, I wasn't talking about Amsoil -- which still works great, Bob, and just proves how wrong you often are. My personal tests have proved it with oil analysis, but I can't expect you to accept facts when emotion is so attractive...

From that reasoning, the best quality manufacturers make a product no better than recycled waste oil processed to meet the MINIMUM specifications of API certification (and they are minimums by the way).

Shoot I've never not bought my oil from Walmart, they have a great selection and are the cheapest.

 

If you buy it by the case, it works out to be cheaper than by the quart.

 

Yeah I just never have the will to spend all that cash at once lol

 

I didn't either for years. I buy a case of oil every other change (I change 4 vehicles about every 2 months; my 2, my fiance's, and my moms). 1 Case of Motorcraft (what I run in the BII and mom's Explorer) will last 2.25 oil changes. So I have extra if i need to throw it in the daily driver, or if by chance one springs a leak. I like having extra oil around. In the spring when I change the lawn mower oil, I use it in it also.

 

Thats a good idea, I need to check my moms Hyundai and see how hard it is to change the oil in that and I might just start doing hers as well. I always end up with a little extra oil that I just keep in the truck.

Yeah after doing some quick research it isn't bad, its easier than my truck. Now my girlfriends Sentra is a pain in the ***, I don't even do it anymore lol

 

Although I don't use motorcraft, I agree with having oil around, and I also agree that it is cheaper by the case, no matter what oil you buy..... :)
