Why are 4 bangers so rare?

Why are 2.3L 4 Cylinder engines so rare in Rangers? Is it just where I live?

Everyone is telling me the 4.0L V6 is worth more money and more sought after but the market is saturated with 3.0 and 4.0 V6 engines, the 2.3L ones don't last at all especially if they have an extended cab.

Did they make less of them or do people just favor the gas mileage over the power of the V6?

It was decided the extended cab with the 2.3 were too heavy for the small 4 banger.
Mazda B2300's were, and are rare too because of this.
Most want pulling capacity, so the 2.3 won't cut the mustard.

The ones that are left fall in the hands of students and city folks who want the fuel economy of the 2.3.
Basically just toys for that crowd _ non working trucks.

In all honesty, the weight of the truck doesn't change, if you want fuel economy, don't use your lead foot.

EDIT:
Not happy with your 4 litre ? :-)

Try find a 5 speed manual with an extended cab, rear wheel drive.
Most are all crapomatics and 4X4's
Who needs a 4x4 in Southern BC Canada !?

I'm happy with it, but I have it listed and am not opposed to flipping it. These trucks are flying off the shelves and I'd be silly not to take a profit. The truck is amazing but for my purposes it's just wasted gas. Either way I'm content :) I'm in school for the next 6 months just putting around town. The winter tires/truck set up will be nice but I would easily move into a car if I make the right profit on the truck.

It drives incredibly smooth though and I haven't even been burning that much gas (Albeit haven't been driving much)

The 4cyl engines were mostly in 2WD regular cabs because the whole point of a 4cyl is MPG, so why add weight of 4WD and longer cab

The 4cyl Rangers/Mazda 2300 may not have been as popular in Canadian market, while southern BC is not snow prone 4WD's are still very popular in the rest of Canada

US market is probably where you will find higher percentage of 4cyl Rangers, big in Fleet use and with commuters
I remember when most auto parts stores were delivering with Rangers, 4cyl regular cab

The 4 cylinders are fairly common here in the south. You will see them in 4x4 and extended cab versions along with the regular cab 4x2 fleet vehicles.
