Will it work?

I had major problems with regearing my 7.5 and my trucks been on jackstands for the past 2 weeks.Instead of fixing what is there im going to swap out my 7.5 for a 8.8.I have located 2 8.8's out of 2009 rangers. The first has 3.73's and l/s 17K miles $400.The second has 3.55's 11k miles and im unsure if its open or l/s for $324. Truck is going to be put in the shop for the regear here in a few weeks.

Now here is my question will my truck turn either of these axle's as is?My truck needs 4.56's for the 31's that are on it. My stock rearend had 4.10's.Im figuering the 3.73 axle will make it feel like my truck is turning 33's and 3.55's would feel like 35's.Obviously the 3.73 axle would be better. But if the 3.55 axle is l/s i may pick it up since it is cheaper and less miles.Keep in mind it will be regeared in a few weeks.

Other than that i found a 1999 8.8 l/s 4.10's with 160000 miles for $400 at another yard

keep looking for a 8.8 with 4.10's and a l/s you should be able to find one for cheaper than 400 for sure.

if its higher miles, just open it up and check it out, replace fluid and you should be fine. i still need to pick up an expo 8.8 soon.

^^^ All that plus check bearing (inner and outer) and the pinion seal. Over 100k and it will defiantly need one in the hear future.

You know 4.10s are recommended for 31s and 4.56s are for 33s right?

That rings true for 5 speeds mines a auto came stock with 4.10's. i need 4.56's for 31's, 4.88's for 33's.

Not worried about the bearings its going to get regeared to 4.56's in a few weeks with all new bearings. Just dont wanna have to drop the extra cash to rebuild the trac-lok. Just wanna know if my truck will be fine running 3.73's or 3.55's for a few weeks till it gets regeared.

I figured your truck would have had 16's. 3.73's will work for awhile, but you won't like it.

I got the shaft on options crappy 15x7 steel wheels, am/fm radio (no cd player), ect... only options were auto trans and a/c.

Cool thats what i needed to know just need to get my truck back on the road. Its parked in the getto on jackstands. Pulled the radio and everything out just afraid someone will tag it. It will be getting put in a shop for 4.56's next month.

Which part you referring to? Wheel size or gears? I've seen many 2wd's with 16's.

XL/XLT 2WDs come stock with 15x7s, EDGE/Sport 2WDs come with 16x7s. I don't believe I've seen a pre-2010 XL/XLT with 16s.
