winch?

There are so many choices for winches now, i dunno what to get! I think a 8000lb would be enough. Am I right? I only wheel in snow. Are the cheap ones that bad? Like smittybuilt and milemarker or am I just paying for the "warn" name?

8k is fine, in fact perfect for our trucks. imo, i like to support local places out, and warn manufacturers their winches only like 7 miles from my place. I want a 9.5ti...overkill? yes.

My buddy has a harbor freight winch, still uses it and it's been used quite a bit on differnet rigs for the past 2 years.

Rule of thumb....

Truck weight x 1.5 = minimum winch capacity.

I have the Warn 8,000lb winch. Pulled my cherokee out of some nasty sticky stuff. Havnt mounted it on the ranger yet.

The way I look at it is that when I need to use the winch, I really really need it. Mainly as Im ussually by myself. Thats not exactly the time I wanna find out that the cheap chinese winch is goona konk out on me.

Sorry but a winch isnt the spot to go cheap.
You can get a new warn low profile 8,000 lb winch for $600.

I had a guy help pull me out a while back. My winch cable an straps werent quite long enough so he hooked his winch on to mine. He had a T-MAX brand winch. While it worked, it was SLOOOOWWWWW.

Another decent winch is the Older Warn model 8274. That is a quick winch, although it is rather tall.
