is it worth putting money in my truck?

i got a 2001 2.3 rwd ranger from the local auction and it used to be a fleet truck, either a gas or phone company, i forgot. its kinda beat up on the outside but still runs like a tank (as expected from a ranger lol) im on the fence about hammering out the dents, painting it, and letting it breathe better, possibly a trans swap + turbo way, way down the road. do you think it'd be worth it or would i be better off saving my money for a 4x4 v6 down the road?

x2 w/ Downey. It's really up to you and your needs. If you wanted a 4.0 4x4, then you woulda bought one, right? BUT....those 4 banger fleet trucks get DOUBLE the mileage a 4.0 4x4 gets. THAT's the reason I want one....plus, turbo swaps = 300hp to the ground easy with not that many parts and money out.

Like said before do all needed maintence hammer out all the dents make the truck look good then go for the "go fast" parts. But for now just drive and enjoy 25+mpg in a truck :).

I say save your money and just put enough into it to keep it road worthy , take out a few dents , and keep you in transportation.
Fleet vehicles are generally "run hard and put away wet".
Remember it's already a ten year old truck (Model years are built 1 year prior) so run it till it dies ,and when it does,if you haven't put too much into it,you'll have nothing to cry about .
Save the "upgrade" money for a newer one.

thanks guys, i definitely plan on keeping it as long as possible and even if it isnt "worth it" i want it to be as killer of a truck as it can so i figure why not haha and on a different note (without finding another thread) i can tell im gonna need a new muffler soon, do you guys know of anything in partiuclar that could free up some power but not make my truck sound like a ricer? haha
