Is it worth it? ranger for $1200

My buddy has a 93 ford ranger that is a 4x4 and an extra cab. It has 100k miles and is real clean. He has new accessories like alternator, water pump and a few hoses changed. The 4x4 doesnt work(motor) and he has lockers he just installed. White with a shortbed. No modifications at all. It Has a V6 4.0 and 5 speed manual tranny.

Is it worth the price?

For 1200 I say yes, how well does the engine run? Can you see any leaks or here any weird noises? Check all the fluid levels, see if the smell weird or a weird color. The 4x4 motor is a issue i've heard of before, it is fixable.

Yeah for only 1200, assuming the motor is in good running order and no other significant problems then I would say it is pretty damn close to a steal! Yo'd better be all over it or I will be racing Stone over there to get it!

It runs great . he drove it to Oregon and back to California 2 times with no problnms at all. The engine runs and sounds great.

Whats the first thing I should do?

Can I do a torsion lift on it and a spacer lift while I save up the money for the real deal?

No on the torsion lift. It is a TTB truck. You can lift it 2 inches in the front to level it out and then body lift it pretty cheap and run 33's, or check out ntwonline, they have good deals on a couple TTB lifts.

Ohh... and hell yes buy it!

Buy it right away that is a great deal. It could turn into a perfect truck for modding!

Deff. a good deal! Get it! The t-case shift motor may start working after a few smacks with a hammer! (honestly it might)

I'm picking it up this weekend.

I asked him about the 4 wheel drive and whats it do. He says he doesnt see lights either when he puts it in 4 wheel.

he also says that it pops out of 4th gear when driving and has to shift to fith before it happens. (bent fork?) (adjustment?)

Well if the shift motor isn't switching then no 4X4 lights should light up, when you get it try pressin the 4X4 button and see if you hear clicking if you do then the relay is good, then you want to try the hammer method.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm kinda excited to get this home and start wheeling. I have alot of plans for it. I plan on making it a street legal weekend wheeler. I'll definatly try the hammer method. Where is the box located on this truck. I dont want to be smacking the wrong thing.

It looks like a can and is connected on the backside of the t-case when I refer to the backside its on the same side that the rear driveshaft in on, you'll deff. see it when looking up at the t-case.
