WTF some scum tried to steal gas!

Some low life attempted to steal gas from my truck and wifes cobalt. I noticed this at the gas station when i took the cap off that little metal flapper thing was gone. I guess they couldn't get gas out because of something in the filler hose or tank but i don't know which.

Now my question is does it matter that the flapper thing is gone?

I think i am going to bate them in by leaving a can outside.

They cant steal gas from your truck unless someone removed the screen or cut your tank open. I dont have that flapper thing I dont think there ever was one.

that flapper thing doesnt really do anything, just keeps gas from splashing excessively into the gas cap, mine got ripped out when i was filling up with a gas can

Thieves around here are just jamming a screwdriver into gas tanks and stealing gas that way. Thats right up there with the A-holes who steal cats from parked cars.

the cheap autozone ones never last with the winters here, i had to rip my old one off because the lock froze up.

the best locking caps you can buy are from ford, i think they are made by stant, i know mine is.

Worried about people stealing it from your truck, how about at the pump? How about this article,
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080426/bad_gas_pumps.html

And how much are the Ford locking gas caps?

Yeah they didn't get anything out of either of our vehicles but it still pisses me off. I wish they would steal the whole truck, and i always leave my truck unlocked and everything was left untouched. So i guess they were just out lookin for gas.

But why the need to rip the flapper things out?

Prolly not intentional, just kinda broke it when pulling the hose out in a hurry. That bites the big one!

my truck came with the flapper roach. you can see where the indentations are for it. Also, sometimes, after I fill up, i get all kings of wierd stuff going on. I usually happens after a pretty bumpy ride and I fill up tho... That and other times, it can take up to 30 minutes to fill my truck... LOL

I always thought that metal flapper was to prevent the fumes from escaping the tank if the cap is left off. I'm curious as to why they would need to remove that to get a hose into the tank?

in PA to pass inspection you have to have that little metal flappy thing so you will need to get one installed b4 your inspection runs out or have them install one when you get it inspected
