XLT package..

I have a 99 4X4 XLT stepside truck and I don't have tinted back windows..power windows, or power door locks. I thought that was supposed to be part of the XLT package... Does XLT pretty much mean they plastic chromified parts of my truck? Nothin worse than meetin with a friend, and havin to unbuckle and bend over to roll the other window down.

I'm not sure what exactly is included in the XLT package, I was wondering the same thing myself. I have an '01 XLT and I do have all the things you listed. What makes the XLT well...XLT?

I googled it and here is what I found. Only found info for the 2004 (at work I can't take TOO long on things like this) and there were 2 XLT packages.

Carpeting, Color-Keyed
Cruise/Speed Control
Doors, Four
Floor Mats, Color-Keyed
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, 5140 lbs.
Jump Seats, Rear
Lights, Front Fog
Side Step Bars
Steering Wheel, Leather
Steering Wheel, Tilt
Trailer Hitch, Class III
Wheels, 16-inch Aluminum
Window, Sliding Rear

And this one:
Carpeting, Color-Keyed
Floor Mats, Color-Keyed
Lights, Front Fog
Side Step Bars
Wheels, 16-inch Aluminum

I don't have power anything. I bought mine used so maybe the previous owner(s) took them off but I don't have step bars either. Or maybe the 98 year didn't have that as an option I dunno. I don't have four doors and I don't know if my hitch is class III...

did you buy your XLT new?
were there power windows in it that suddenly dissappeared?
did you wake up this morning and realize your truck had morphed into a lesser vehicle?

sounds like a value package to me
... do you have stock fog lights, if not another sign it is an XLT value package
damn that orginal owner, why did they do this to you

Nope, my XLT only came with carpet, cloth seats, better door panels, chrome and A/C. It's not really the upgrade it seems to be. The Edge Plus is the one with all the goodies, or the FX4-II. The XLT is just an XL with added Trim.

I guess that depends on the "friend"

That's correct. The XLT is a trim package. Base XLT regular cab is 4-cylinder/manual trans/manual windows/locks/mirrors. You could order the Power Equipment Group separately or as part of an Preferred Equipment Package. Same for the slider and many other options.

The Value package is a fairly recent addition. It is a decontented 4.0L, 4x4, 2-door supercab XLT that sells at an attractive price. PEG, slider, rear jump seats, etc. are optional extras. I don't believe that it was available in 99.

The tilt/cruise and slider were optional. The 16" aluminum wheels were standard.

Mine can with 15 inch painted steel wheels. Did Ford make 16" alloys part of the XLT package in '02?

The sixteens and the 4.0L and the 2-door supercab are part of the 4x4 XLT Value package.

It all depends on the option groups. In my 95 its a 4 cyl ext. cab. I have xlt with no power windows or locks but I have cruise and tilt sterring wheel. The main thing with the xlt is cloth seats, carpet, and chrome bumpers.

Some XLTs are fully loaded, others are not. An XLT can have 4-cylinder/manual/crank windows/manual locks. Upgrading to an XLT gives you cloth seats, carpet, fancier exterior trim and other niceties. The rest is from PEPs (Preferred Equipment Packages) and standalone options.

I feel like I've gone the full gamut here. My last truck was a '99 XL Sport, which was quite nearly 'stripped' (no AC, but did have cloth seats instead of vynl plus the 'fancy' steel wheels and wider tires). I went from that to a quite nearly loaded XLT FX4 LII. Although mine wasn't even 'loaded' to the max. It does not have the super premium audio package (in dash changer) or many of the accessories (bed liner, folding hard tonneau, bed extender, etc).

If you guys think Ford is weird about packaging now...back when they had the "Custom" trim level you could find just about any combination of options. We had a 1986 Ranger Super Cab with the Custom trim level. It had no clearcoat, no A/C, black rear bumper, chrome front bumper and grille, AM/FM radio (this was a "nice" optional radio at the time, not top of the line though) and tinted rear windows. It pretty much had things from every trim level Ford offered in it.

Power Equipment Group is the KEY.............XL, XLT, etc notwithstanding.

I have all Power on my 2004 Ranger EDGE and the window sticker showed "Power Equipment Group" @ $405.00.
