yes exhaust and i searched... so there!

i like the gibson single sept side exit.. im probably going to get it because its CHEAPER then haveing my muffler shop make me one.. which usually goes the other way around...

but i just want to know if it resonates bad, like over your sterio playing at a reasonable level bad, not the raido blairing..because i hate resonation (same as droaning).

o and if any one has sounds cliips of the gibson that be great. i only found one on you tube and it was in his garage i would like one driving if at all possible..

thanks, JOSH

Now, I know it's not a gibson, but I have a Flowmaster Super 40, 2.5", exiting out in the stock location, but changed a lil. Anyway.....I have no problems with resonation or droning, with or without the radio on. As long as the exhaust is aiming away from the body, there shouldn't be much resonance. Yea, there's a little, but hey it IS a flowmaster. Now, If you have the exhaust dumped right behind the muffler, yea....expect resonance....good amount of it.

About pricing......Here's how mine worked out......$60 Muffler, $155 hang, bend, and weld, $25 for 2.5 in/3.5 slash out chrome tip. If your set on getting a ready to hang kit, do it.....it's nice. But, even sometimes, it is a better deal to have stuff hung, just shop around for a good shop and buy your muffler off ebay, it's a lot cheaper. I got 2 super 40s when they first came out off ebay for $65 each when they were selling in store for $110 each.

Whatever you do decide to do, good luck, and HAPPY MODDING.

I had that exact exhaust on my 05 4.0 I loved it. It sounded great down low and when you really get on it. It doesn't drone on the highway or when jsut cruising, which is something I really liked. I used to have a Flowmaster on my 2000 4.0, and it droned like crazy on the highway or when just cruising, but the gibson was much better. Its to bad you done live closer, as I have my exhaust for sale, since I sold that truck.

from what he wrote it sounds like that is exactly what he wants. I also noticed a power increase with my gibson where i saw a decrease with the flow.

My flowmaster 40 series delta stainless isn't too bad on my 4.OH if you keep it under 80. 80 and up it starts getting loud, but thats gettin to 3000 rpm or more, so you would expect it to...

I heard a Gibson on a 3.0 in person a couple months back, wasnt loud at all. I just didnt like the tone, too ricey imo.

If you want something cheap thats not loud, you dont have to buy a kit. You could buy the muffler of your choice and replce it with the stock one.

ya i was thinkign of just buying the muffler and have it installed on the stock pipe maybe just put a tip on it on the back... so the flows dont resonate? i could probably get a used one installed for 70 bucks maybe ill try it i caint imagine that i would gain alot of hp going from the stock 2 1/4 or so to the 2 1/2 anyway... and i really dont care about loud i care about resonace

anyone with the flows want to get me an incab cruise video where it resonates the worst???

im sure it would also help alot of others..???

thanks guys JOSH

same in a way... i had magnaflow, then flowmaster, lost power and mpg.

D has done dyno with several different mufflers flowmaster was the worst.

I have had a borla and a magnaflow on my truck, both were so much better than the flowmaster...

if anything IMO which some would agree the flowmaster is one of the worst mufflers you can get.

btw i only ran a flowmaster for a month, couldnt stand it anymore.

also i got great sound IMO from the magnaflow and my borla i went for quiet..

My flowmaster resonated really bad. I couldnt talk to anyone in the truck on the highway. I say go with gibson or magnaflow like zabeard said.

I have a Gibson single side exit and I love it. It's a little bit louder than stock. It has a nice tone. On the highway it isn't very loud. It gets the loudest while accelerating from a stop light around 2,500-3,000 rpms with an auto tranny. I've gone on many long drives 5-8 hours long and I haven't been annoyed by the sound yet. I towed a 22' travel trailer for 6 hours flooring it 90% of the trip and it still wasn't annoying.

Josh - I had the Gibby swept side on my '02 4.0L FX4 - no droning at all, was a nice install, like has been said above, has a nice grunty but not overbearing sound level. On the grand scheme of loudness, it's definetly quiet but not stock, it will be just a tad louder than stock. From what you have said so far, you and I probably have very similar opinions on exhaust systems. I don't think you would be disappointed at all, unless you want a louder exhaust because it is not a flow - no where near that kind of decibel from the Gibby. By the way, I put about 40k on that truck in just two years - tons of highway driving between Purdue Univ, Michigan State and Virginia Tech for two years - I didn't have any complaints about droning. If I had to be SUPER critical about it for you, I would say it may have had just the slightest, most minimal resonance around 1800rpm, but honestly, it was great and I have a hard time recollecting about the minute details on it - that was 4 years ago now.

For more perspective, I've been thinking about an exhaust for my new '07 and I've been thinking about the Magnaflow/JBA single cat back (they are the same) this time because I wouldn't be opposed to just a tad bit more volume out of it - but I'm weary because I know first hand that the Gibson was nice and mellow and didn't drone - a definite fail-safe exhaust for my tastes.

Hope this helps a little - good luck - truck looks nice to BTW!!

i simply asked that guy in the burnout video what exhaust he has.. lol

and i was comtemplating jba also, very much in love with thier headers BUT in there own video it sounds kinda ricy and havent been able to find any more videos of it...

thanks for the video of the flowmaster, i like the tone but it souds even at idle that its going to resonate at a cruise ( i could be wrong) i think im going to get the gibson in all reality the worst that happneds is i remove the gibson muffler and install anouther but i stil get the nice mandrel bent aluminized tubeing!! and i dont want it loud.. i already have my loud vehicle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK9s4HXvc6Y

thanks for the help guys, and onebluemcm very nice review..

JOSH

You got an auto or a stick? If auto, I bet the tuner will help with that some.

it really needs to shift harder for one, thats 70% of the reason im willing to pay the price for the tuner..

okay i just welded up a set of 2.5" side swept pipes coming out of my flow 40 si/do. I made a little video. Okay the camera's mic isnt the greatest so it didn't really pick up the low rumble or anything and it makes it sound like it has a wheeze but it really does sound nice in person.

BTW there is very little interior resonance at any speed. Personally i like being able to slightly hear the exhaust, reminds you of what you got, but if i don't want to hear a low rumble then i just flip on the radio. It doesn't take much to cover the exhaust.
