1989 Ranger Wiper Motor Replace
1989 Ranger Wiper Motor Replace
I’m in the process of replacing the wiper motor on my 1989 Ford Ranger and have a couple of questions. According to the workshop manual I need to cycle the wiper blades until they are in the straight-up position. My problem is the wiper motor does not work and I cannot cycle the wiper blades manually. What is the purpose of positioning the wiper blades in the straight-up position? Second it says reach through the RH access cover opening and unsnap the wiper motor clip from the RH mounting arm and pivot shaft. Is the clip on the motor shaft and any suggestions on the best method of getting to it.
Thanks
Malcolm

Problem Solved, I removed the four bolts holding the windshield wiper motor in place. Then I was able to pull the windshield motor out far enough to gain access to the bolt holding the windshield motor to the wiper linkage. I used a 5/16 inch ratchet wrench on the bolt because of the limited space.
I replaced the windshield motor after switching the mounting plate to the new motor using the reverse process.
The only problem is I still don’t have any window wipers or washer.
