1990 2.3L Wont start without starter fluid but runs great
its a bit of a long story but this truck runs like a champ. i can drive it for miles at high speeds. but once it is turned off it will not crank without fluid, but once it runs its great.
i have been driving this truck for years 19 to be exact. it is not my everyday truck because of my work truck.
One day as i was leaving home it was running super rough. like a bad fuel filter. it had a hole in the bed already and i changed the filter. the gasket did not get put back on.(mt fault) later it threw a tps, icv, and an egr fault code. i changed all of them and nothing. i had to leave it be for a while and i think the tank filled up with water. and then later i tried it and nothing. but it sucked water all the way to the injectors. much later on i got to work on it again and upon the discovery of water i replace the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regular. the water had rusted the regulator and damaged the fuel pump. after that i tried and it nothing. my friend hit it with a touch of starter fluid and it came alive. and ran great. i shut it off and it wouldn't crank again. and to this day its the same thing. i never hit it with starter fluid more than once per attempt to work on it.
318,000 miles and its been great, id scrap it if it didnt purr like a cat once it starts.
any and all help is appreciated in advance

brother i did forget the fuel sending unit gasket. on the side of the road i was just glad to be alive. haha. i did clean out the tank wiped it down as much as possible. i did not clean out the fuel lines however. it was a thought but when it ran good once i started it i didnt go back and do it. i thought about replacing them but wanted to wait until i knew what i was facing.
