1998 ford ranger won't startup after fixing brake lights
I had no brake lights, i got them working, looked at the wiring under the dash for the pedal, the wires under the driver seat, Now it won't start unless i use starting fluid, My code reader recieves power but will not connect with the truck, the injectors are stuck open and it's pouring gas out of the exhaust manifold, it hydrolocked with fuel. HELP ME. Did i burn the computer out of it?
When ever you trouble shoot electrical issues on a vehicle with a computer, always disconnect the ground on the battery.
If this isn't done, it takes very little to cause a "short" and damage the PCU _ assuming this is what happened.
Try disconnecting the battery (ground only) and leaving it sit for 1/2 hour.
Wen doing this, some like t leave over night, but 1/2 how will be good enough.
When you turn the key on, does the "Check Engine Light" light up ?
If it doesn't check for a burnt out bulb, no CEL means that there is an issue with the PCU when the key is in the on position.

here is more info
I had my brake lights go out, went to check on the cause of the issue. fooled with the brake switch connected to the truck. Got them working and tried starting the truck, wouldn't start. it was dumping gas uncontrollably, it ended up hydrolocking the engine Got code reader, it wouldn't even link, check engine light was off with the key on. so i fried the ECM, replaced it, it will now pull codes and it pulls p0345 Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1). It will start and run like 200 rpm at an idle and sometimes it will start and run fine for a few seconds (30 seconds or less), then right back to the 200 rpm missing idle.
(I have replaced both the cam sensor and crank sensor with a known good sensor, no changes)
Got it to run good for a minute, took it for a drive. then it left me stranded and wouldn't start back up. Overdrive light started blinking as it started dying while driving. (Transmission shifted extremely smooth before, no issues ever.) Im lost as i've never seen a vehicle mess up this way before. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
I've double checked the grounds 10 times. nothing else has changed.

Well thats not quit true, if trucks not running now something DID in fact change
How did you fix the brake lights?
What turned out to be the problem with them?
1998 Rangers didn't have PATS so that's one less thing it could be
The 3 things and engine needs to run are
1. spark, at the right time
2. fuel, in the right mix with air
3. compression, above 100psi
If you think compression is OK, then I will too, lol, if this is a 2.5l engine then I wouldn't be so sure it is

It's a 98 3.0. It will start back up now, but it runs terribly, I wasn't there for the episode it had when test drove, someone worked on it for me while i was at work. He just now told me that the overdrive light started flashing just before it left him stranded. Its gettins spark, tons of fuel, and the compression is great, I tested it when i changed the plugs. I've been working on cars full time for 10+ years but this one has me stumped. Im starting to consider taking it to ford.
I just dont understand it, I fried out the computer, replaced it, it got better but didn't completely resolve my problem. but the brake lights aren't even connected to anything on the computer side ? im considering running it into the pond at this point. LOL :p
