HELP!!! 1998 ford ranger 3.0 2wd wont run after fixing brake lights
I had no brake lights, i got them working, looked at the wiring under the dash for the pedal, the wires under the driver seat, Now it won't start unless i use starting fluid, My code reader recieves power but will not connect with the truck, the injectors are stuck open and it's pouring gas out of the exhaust manifold, it hydrolocked with fuel. HELP ME. Did i burn the computer out of it?
1998 Ranger should have computer wiring in the engine bay, Computers 104 wire connector is in upper center of firewall
So under dash or seat wiring shouldn't have the effect you are describing, i.e. the fuel injectors
The fuel injector all get 12volts when key is on, but they have no Ground so stay closed
For a V6 there are 6 wires, one for each injector running to the computer, the computer Grounds each wire to open that injector for a few milliseconds but ONLY when engine is turning, when crankshaft sensor is pulsing
You can disconnect battery, then remove the bolt holding on that 104 wire connector, then remove the connector
Now hook up battery and turn key on, see if injectors are still "dumping out gas"
If not then yes computer may be damaged
It could just be 1 injector that has a short to Ground, it can dump alot of fuel out
But the fact you can't connect to computer with scan tool isn't a good sign
The DLC/OBD port has its own fuse so should have power regardless of computers status
The fact your Reader gets power just means that one fuse is good, but doesn't mean anything regarding computer itself
