My son has a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4, Flex fuel. He said his trip meter and odometer quit working. What can I check? What is the most likely fix and cost? Everything else is working fine.

 

If the speedometer works but the odo doesn't, then the problem is in the gears between them. This is a fairly common problem on higher mile Rangers but, as far as I know, there are no repair parts available to fix it. A junkyard cluster from a 98~00 could be in your future - cost might be about $40~80. Just be sure to get a guarantee that the odo works in the replacement....

 

Yes the speedo he says is still working. About 100,000 miles on it roughly.
