2008 Ford Ranger - only Ice cold air - no adjustment.

Hi, new to the forum, just bought a 2008 Ford Ranger & might have just figured out why they were selling, the temp control is not working, A/c blows ice cold, fan works at all speeds, etc. so that will be great all summer here in Texas, but I might want to get this fixed by December or so because obviously there will be no heat if it wont adjust from cold. Any tips or tricks? I am broke & will have to fix it myself, so all the help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Any help here?? I think the dealer I bought it from is going to help me out, even though I bought it "as is" but I would like to have some kind of knowledge about it if possible. That's why I came here. I had an 05 Chevy Colorado for 7 years & the Colorado forum helped me out on many occasions. Was hoping this forum was going to be the same way. help a brotha out!!!

blend door or blend door motor.

open the glove box, take out everything, squeez the sides to have it drop down out of the way.

shine a flashlight in at the black box. on the top of the box is a flat white/clear box, thats the blend door motor.

turn the truck on, turn your dash vents on.

now start on cold, and move the temp dial to hot while looking between the white/clear box and the black box. theres a small shaft that runs down between the two. if its not moving (moves very slow), its the blend door motor. if it is, its the blend door.

hope for your sake its the blend door motor. when replacing, there is one plug and 3 screws. it needs to go up, before it can come out. replace and reinstall.

You have not indicated which position you have the control on. It sounds like you are guessing it will have not heat so you apparently have not tried it yet. If you are trying this in the Max A/C position, it will not control with the temperature controller. At least that is the way mine works. You need to put it in the normal A/C position and then it should control with the temperature controller.

If it does not control in the normal A/C or positions other than Max, you could also have a bad or disconnected temperature controller switch.

It doesn't adjust the temp on any setting, whether it's max, regular, defrost, heat, vent, anything, it's just cold no matter what. I'm not guessing, there is no heat.

Well, it's been a blazing hot summer here in Texas so I haven't messed with this till now, I dropped the glove box & shined a light in while turning from hot to cold & nothing moves between the little white box & big black box, so I guess I need to pull the dash trim around the controls & make sure the controller switch isn't disconnected or bad?

Sounds exactly like a blend-door issue. I had a friend with an 08 with the same problem a couple of years ago.

Replacing it isn't to crazy of a job.... Even though this is on an Explorer, it's the same as nearly every '02+ Ranger with a "smooth" temp ****/electric actuator. Take a peek at this video....

Just to make sure, I'd still remove the radio bezel and pull out the HVAC controls just to confirm it's plugged in. I'm still vERY suspect of the blend door/blend door motor.

Searched an found this.

My problem is the opposite. I have HOT heat all the time and only somewhat cool air when I have AC to MAX.

Will hopefully be able to check this part in the next few days. It seems like my truck is falling apart all at once fight now.

Just changed the blend door motor & I'm good to go now. Was not very hard at all to change, I did drop my 1/4" drive ratchet when almost done installing the new one (only one I had) and it fell back into never never land. I went next door & got my dads 1/4" ratchet to finish tightening & said the heck with it, the ratchet can stay. I taped an extension to my Dads ratchet so I didn't drop his back there too. LOL Thanks for the help Y'all, I would have had to take it to a mechanic without you.
