2008 ranger with square fog lights?

I've been searching online for information about adding Factory fog lights to my 2008 ford ranger xl , I have the pop out covers on the valance.. . i ended up ordering a pair for a 2004-2005 ranger with housing assembly, and tried to make the holes bigger so they would slide in, epic fail . i am trying to find the square headlights for my 2008 but all i can find is round ones ? do you think the 2006-2007 square foglights would work ? i have no mounting studs on the valance... what do i need to do this, i already have the interior switch with fog . i tried making the holes on the driver side bigger to slide in the 2004 housing assembly, and i ended up snapping the studs rite off , hope i didnt screw things up too bad.

I'll find out for you and post back. IIRC, they mount to the metal bumper support.

Yep, they mount to the top of the metal bumper support. Towards the bottom of the thread I posted below is a picture of the metal bumper support. The support is upside down in the picture, but you can see where the bracket mounts. You may have to drill the holes if they aren't already there.

That's what we're here for. Glad I could help.

As for the wiring, that's definitely a hit or miss. Hopefully you have everything you need.

Fogs

Mine were the same setup on my 06.I bought the lights on line.
Didn't have a clue how to mount them.I went to the ford dealership, went to body shop,a guy in there wasn't busy,he came out with a handful of
proper screws, nuts, bolts, whatever. And mounted them. Some chick superviser came outand, said what are you doing!!And started bitching.
The nice guy was done by then,in all of 10 minetes.
I lucked out on that one,no money,no paperwork,no nothing.I hope the guy didn't get fired.
Went home, wired them up,oh-boy!!! Working fog lights.!!!
see ya,old retired guy

got the lights pfisher, they fit ! i noticed the holes, and it slid rite in there, .. just not sure what screws/ bolts to put in there. and its really an awkward area to screw through the holes ! may have to remove something in the way, heres a shot of where the fog light will mount. 2008 ranger with the square light valance. i also got these plugs to go into the lights at the ford dealership . these need some more wires to connect too, and i have no idea what wires i need to get !

You could remove the bumper to make it easier. Should be four bolts holding it on. Likely 3/4 socket size. At least that's how it is for 99 and 03 Rangers.

The bumper and valance will be attached to each other, via clips and bolts. The actual bumper is attached to a set of brackets with studs that protrude out and fit into the frame of the vehicle, where four nuts attach.

Be aware that there is a lot of adjustment that can be done here. So if you don't feel like readjusting it after you've taken it off, don't take it off. Definitely have a friend, they're heavy and cumbersome to work with.

I've never messed around with the 06-07 bumpers, so I don't know whether the black impact absorbers that are mounted between the bumper plastic and the reinforcement block the mounting holes for the fog lights. You may have to remove the bumper fascia and the impact absorbers from the reinforcement piece in order to get the bolts in there. Hopefully there's some clearance there.

i was able to get 2 out of 3 bolts mounted on each fog light, i cannot access the 3rd hole to screw in the bolt. there is something blocking it, anyone know what this is, or if it will be difficult to remove it, so i can add the last bolt on each side ? here is a picture of whats blocking the last bolt.

Size: 230.6 KB i used 6mm bolts , and on the side i added a washer and nut behind 20mm length , anything longer i couldnt get to work , i spent maybe 45 minutes trying to get the first one to mount, and about 5 minutes to do the second one. getting closer .

That's probably the valance that's in the way. Not sure how it's obstructing you, but you could probably hold the bolt with pliers or something, or try installing the fastener backwards.

It's the impact absorber. If the fog light is sturdy with the two bolts, I wouldn't worry about the third. To get to that impact absorber and remove it, you have to drill out all the plastic rivets to remove the plastic bumper cover. Not a fun job to do, and then you have to re-attach the bumper cover with new plastic rivets.

First you have to figure out whether your truck has any of the wiring to run them. If you don't have the fog light plug behind your radio bezel, and you don't have the connectors out front, you may as well assume you have none of it. There was a guy selling fog light switch kits on one of the forums, but I have no idea whether he's still doing that. And I can't really remember what all his kits included.

Here's a good diagram. If you want the lights to only function when the headlight switch is turned on, grab power for the switch from the HVAC panel. There's a two pin plug that powers the illumination lamps within the panel itself. Black, and a colored wire. I forget what the color is, but the colored wire is what you want. Tag a wire into that then lead it to the switch.

In this configuration, it'll work as OEM exceptfor the high-beam throw-out circuit, which disables the fog lamps when the high-beams are activated. In some areas, there is a limit to how many forward-facing lights can be active at one time.

2008 owners manual calls for a 15 amp fuse, so use that rating rather than the 20.

awesome ., thanks for the diagram, i have the OEM switch which you are supposto PULL for the fogs to be active, ill try and figure all this out. the problem i was having, is the 15 amp fuse, does not sit snug into the slot specified for the fog lights , fuse slot #33 i believe, it is very loose when i push it in... not sure why.

Open the door wide and look in there with a bright flashlight. The contacts may not be there.

I have had some add-a-circuit units that didn't fit well, and that was solved by flowing solder over the contacts and filing to a snug push-fit.

I completely forgot that you have an 07+. You're right, your headlight switch serves as the fog light switch. Your fuse box is also in a different spot than the 98-03 Rangers. I'll see if I can find some info on the newer trucks because I'm not familiar with the newer fog light switch setup.
