200a Alternator problem

Ok so I bought a 200a alternator off of a member here about a month ago or more, but finally got around to installing it, well I hooked it up and everything ( 2g wire from alternator to the junction box; where I found the black/orange wire that originally goes to the alternator).. Start the truck up, battery light comes on and the Volts gauge drops to L- but the engine is still running, a little rougher than normal though. So I check all connections and such, then hook it up straight to the battery- nothing. Then I hook the stock wiring up to the new alternator- nothing. I even unhooked the power wire from the alternator and started the truck- does the same thing as everything for-mentioned. Now i'm thinking the alt. is toast?? Anybody have a thought on this? Thanks

you can take the alt to autozone and they can tell you if its been buttsexed. if so hopefully you and the seller can work something out

Agree with everybody else. You got hosed. Mine is connected directly to the battery, but doing it the way you originally had it (to the junction block) should work just as well.

Thing is, it was new too.. damn, now I have to take it back up somewhere to get the pulleys swapped out because i run an overdrive pulley on the alt.

Ok so I put my old alternator back on, still no worky (wired like stock too). I'm super pissed right now as I have tried everything. My alternator worked before hand as I just wanted to upgrade to something bigger, although it was showing between normal and Low on the volt gauge and is the original with 86k miles on it. I cleaned the connections and the alternator isnt even charging, like with the new one. Anybody have any ideas on what else I could try now?? Taking the alternators to autozone isnt really an option right now, because my roomate's car is at the dealership getting worked on, so i'm without transportation.

Is it possible you blew a fuse, or the fusible link? The only reason I say that: I had a 94 that would not charge (new alt, new bat), and when I took it to the shop, they replaced a fuse under the hood. I don't remember which one it was, or know if the newer trucks are set up the same. But it's something to consider.

Definitely check your fuses. I can't imagine what would have caused the truck to act like that from putting in a new alternator.

First off get it tested.. so you know if you can use it.
then figure out what wiring or fuse fubar has taken place.
