2021 XL STX Pre Collision question
2021 XL STX Pre Collision question
Purchased my new Ranger last Friday. I am convinced that the pre-collision assist is not working. I am positive I have it turned on and the sensitivity is the highest. The lane assist works, curve control seems to work. Also includes Ford Co-Pilot360.
Has anyone else had this issue? I read somewhere that the 2020's had issues where it wasn't working and upgrades to the software or something was the only way to fix. They can't get me in for another 7-10 days.
Additionally - PART TWO: If anyone could answer this one - Does Ford Co-Pilot360 include Adaptive Cruise Control? My salesperson said he thought it had it. Ford couldn't give me a positive answer when I gave them my VIN. Said that they don't think it's even an option on the Ranger.
Any assistance to both questions is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to the forums.
What makes you convinced it's not operating properly ? Have you taken your concern to the dealer ?
Don't own a new Ranger or any vehicles with a system like that, but,
I wonder how the system is "tested" ? Do they run the vehicle toward a wall to "test" it ? Does the vehicles computer verify it's working ? Does it preform a diagnostic on the system ?
Does the system have a "self diagnostic check" ? If so, who's to say you don't have a Hal 9000 operating your truck ? Look what happened to the Discovery !!!
Everytime I hear or read about a problem like this I go out to my garage and give my "plain jane" 2009 Ranger a hug !!!
Besides, I have the best possible collision avoidance system known to man...a pair of Mark I Eyeballs !

According to Ranger Brochures you can ADD "Adaptive Cruise Control" to the Ford Co-Pilot360, but its not included, it says "it's available" on Ranger models
What needs to be added is not stated
Pre-collision assist reads like its included in Ford Co-Pilot360

Adaptive cruise reads like it would use the same front end sensors as the Pre-collision software
It says when cruise is set and there is a vehicle in front of you cruise will adapt speed to that vehicles distance to maintain the distance

Have a 2021 Ranger. Had a front end collision today. No warring's, no sounds, brakes did not engage before I hit the rear end of a 2000 Ford Ranger. Before I took it off the lot, the salesperson turn on everything and made sure it was working correctly. To answer your questions, no it does not work. Anyone have an idea who to contact or what to do. My damage is done, just don't want anyone else to go through this. With only 2000 miles on it, kind of sad to see it in the body shop.

I get that they can see that it's 'ON', but I want to see it in action. And, that has not happened.

I was wondering if you have to be going a certain speed to have it engage? I saw the vehicle in front of me and slammed on the brakes, so I was only going about 25mph. The air bags didn't go off and the truck is still drivable. But, no matter, it just didn't work at all. Maybe set up a curtain and then see if it recognizes it? At least you can drive through that. Let me know if you find out any other information. Thanks!
Sitting here drinking morning coffee, and thinking of all the legal ramifications that could arise from this type of tech.
If the collision avoidance dosen't work and you hit some other vehicle, should you be charged with the accident ? If before a judge in court, can you blame the accident on faulty electronics ?
Does the damage to your vehicle fall under a "warranty claim" if the system was at fault ? Does your warranty cover the other vehicles damage if system was at fault ? Insurance company could claim vehicle defect caused the damage and deny claim.
?????

I hear you. It is very interesting how many questions came to mind when the accident happened. Of course the first was thank goodness everyone was okay. But, why didn't it work, did I have to go a certain speed for it to activate, and the list goes on and on. Living out in the country, thought it would be great with all the deer around, at least the truck might see them before me. I just wanted mainly to make folks aware that it was not working correctly on my truck and to not depend on it.
Active Braking: Active braking may activate if the system determines that a collision is imminent. The system may help the driver reduce impact damage or avoid the crash completely.
I like how it says MAY activate

So, your paying for a safety system that may, or may not work !
Kind of like using a parachute that may or may not have a defect, that may or may not work !
WOW...who's gonna test it ?
For info, my wife's 2018 Subaru Touring has the complete system, and, I DO NOT TRUST IT !!!
