Got the new shift motor in today, plugged it in, no joy. I’ve still got my appointment for the shop on Monday, we’ll see what they say! I did find out that I can buy the OBD2 adapter to run FORscan on my laptop. The adapter is $20 bucks on Amazon. If the shop can’t figure it out for a reasonable cost, I’ll try diagnostics myself. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Damn I was hoping it would work. At least you can return it. I tried the FORScan $20 adapter thing and it wouldn’t connect. Such a pain in the butt all these technologies. Hope the dealer can figure it out.

Just picked up the Ranger from the shop. They ran the codes and found the following:

P1867 Transfer Case Contact Plate Circuit Plate
P1891 Transfer Case Contact Plate Ground Open
P1853 Transfer Case Contact Plate "B" Short
P1857 Transfer Case Contact Plate "C" Short

Ryan, I feel like this is what you experienced and the Transfer Case Shift Motor fixed it. I'm thinking about cutting the plug off and hardwiring. Maybe. I'm also thinking about selling the heap. Lol!

I doubt the plug is your problem. Is it nice and clean? Not using any dielectric greases or anything? And if you cut off that plug it’s not returnable anymore. Probably just got another bad Chinese shift motor. Maybe Rockauto better? The bad one I got had a grey cover on the contact wheel. The good one had a black cover and looked more OEM. Don’t know if that will help but 🤷‍♂️

I've got three transfer case motors at the moment. I'm slated to return the latest one but I still have it. I sprayed the hell out of all the connections with CRC. They "look" good. Maybe I need to get in there and make sure there aren't any pinched or broken wires. I found a video of someone taking the contact plate cover off and spinning the half circle shaft many times both clockwise and counter. It seemed to "reset" the positions. Maybe I'll try that. I honestly have nothing else to lose.

I'll report back. Do you happen to know what values I could check for at the truck side of that plug to see if maybe it is a broken wire somewhere?

test on my sub. You cleaned the other plug upstream of that? It connects to the underside of the cab.

The only plug I remember unplugging when I did the trans swap was the main harness coming from the cab above the trans. Is there another harness I missed? That would totally solve everything if my dumbass missed an entire plug.

Could be the same one. Square plug with a bolt in the middle. Close to the shift motor. I doubt that’s your problem though.

I'll check under there and see what I find. It goes up through the floor near the shift motor? The harness I'm plugging into is a pigtail off the main trans harness. Possible that it's wrong as well...
